Macbeth’s Character in Act 1 is portrayed as strong and brave, he is said to be ‘noble warrior’ by the captain of the Scottish Army. Macbeth is praised by Duncan, the king of Scotland as ‘Valiant Cousin’ Macbeth is a strong warrior who likes to kill for his king, and he seems very religious and willing to do anything to please people he cares for. Macbeth is also very easy to attract, he easily fall’s for the witches predictions and tell’s banquo that he will be king and thane of Cawdor.In Act 2 Macbeth completely changes, he goes from strong, brave warrior to weak, pushover. The main reason of this is because he is around his wife; His wife act’s more like the man of the house, being stronger and more masculine than her husband. She act’s very sweet around Duncan. You notice that Macbeth is acting very strange, almost mad. His wife persuades him to kill Duncan by using her feminine charm, proving he is a pushover.In Act 3 ,scene 1 Macbeth Kills banquo because he supposes banquo of knowing he had killed Duncan, this shows that Macbeth is very wary and that he really doesn’t want to kill anyone but he does because he is afraid for his own life. Macbeth persuades the murderers to kill Banquo by telling them that banquo was the one stopping them from getting a promotion, he also tells the murderers that banquo is ruining his life, the following quote suggests this~ “every minute of his being thrusts against my near’st of life” In Scene 2 Macbeth’s relationship with his wife is struggling majorly, they are always arguing and she acts like she is in charge. She is always telling him what to do and making sure he does it exactly as she says, no different.
In Scene 4 Macbeth hallucinate’ banquo’s ghost because he feels guilty for murdering him! Macbeth’s overall behaviour in the scene is mad, just plain mad. He is acting very immature and his wife is acting more mature and more like royalty rather than her king of a husband. At the end of Scene 4 He resolves to keep a paid spy in every rich lord’s house. This portrays him as a mischievous sly evil man; also he goes to see the 3 weird sisters which show he is weak minded and frail. In Scene 5 we start to feel slightly sorry for Macbeth because we understand that it is not all his fault and that the witches are toying with him. We also understand that they are playing with him like he is a game and they find much amusement out of his suffering and his bad deeds. In scene 6 Macbeth is Described as a tyrant by the old man, this; leads us to think that Macbeth is a evil man who is bloodthirsty and cruel. Macbeth is making a Tyrant, Bloodthirsty, power-hungry, anxious, sly king who relies on spies, murderers, witches and other mean and unthought-of beings to do his dirty work for him portraying him as a man who can’st be trusted.
