Dear Dameron, and I guess, everyone.
Dameron was a feral kitten that was brought to our local shelter.
Its not really anyone's fault you were put down. The person who brought you in probably didn't know any better. I'm so sorry. I know you would have been fine, or at least better off if you had been left alone, but, you were brought to the shelter. I had never seen a cat as young as you Hiss at someone, like you were ready to attack. My fierce little warrior. Kind of stupid I guess, but it suited you in my opinion. You were put into foster for a while, and you came back... I could see you were a bit more social, but you just always hid. I knew you weren't ever going to be a housecat though.. You wouldn't have looked right, seeing you walking normally around a house, asking for attention, it wouldn't have been you I guess. I would have adopted you in a heart beat, And I'm sorry I couldn't, I wish I could have made you understand. I wish I could have let you free, but, that would have come with its own dangers too. And I would most likely be in massive trouble. You were just unadoptable, so, they did what they had to do. The shelter doesn't have much room, and they had to make room for cats that could be adopted, You couldn't be adopted, and if you were set free, you probably couldn't survive well, since you had been fed, and most likely hadn't hunted for yourself considering how young you were when they brought you in. I'm so sorry Dameron. I couldn't really do anything, but I hope that petting you and holding you, gave you a little happiness, or calmness in your final days.
Please, everyone, spay and neuter your cats. These situatuations are awful, and painful.. Shelters are struggling with how many cats are being brought in, so, they have to make room for the cats who have chances of being adopted. And, honestly, if you do find a feral cat, its probably best to just let it go... It would most likely have a better life living outside, than living in a cage for a few terrifying months and being put to sleep. The shelters are just doing what they can, But some cats just won't be pets, its not in their genetics. So, again, Spay and Neuter.. And, if you don't have the money to do that, you shouldn't have a cat.
