stupid laggy computer ruined my chances at a rare pound catch

Okay, so the Pound showed me two wishlist pets, both quite old. I click multiple times on the dog, which is over 1000 days old. But of course, my computer registers it 15 seconds later and it's long gone.
So I refresh the page and find a rare rat, again on my wishlist. I click on that as well, only to find a notice saying that I already adopted from the Pound.
Oh, did I get the dog?
I check my pets. There are tons of pages. How am I going to search through all those pages?
