YOUR QUESTION: What is the value of r for which (r-5)^2 = (r+2)^2?

First, solve things through so you can more easily work with the equation. Ie, multiply out (r - 5)(r - 5) and (r + 2)(r + 2).

r^2 - 5r - 5r + 25 = r^2 + 2r + 2r + 4

Simplify your equation by combining like terms and isolate r so that you can solve for it. Double check your result by sticking it in the equation and making sure both sides equal each other.

21 = 14r

You should be able to solve from there I hope.

I HAVE A QUESTION!
TYPE OF QUESTION:
Wrting

YOUR QUESTION:
So I submitted my essay and my professor seemed to like it, but I did get this feedback from her:
"Your thoughts are excellent, but you may need to play around with the structure and organization of your essay a bit more to ensure that you equally talk about and work with Into the Wild and Muir."

Our prompt:
"For this paper, you will be putting Sean Penn’s Into the Wild and selected readings by John Muir into conversation with each other.

In particular, you will think about the themes and beliefs that Muir discusses in his text and think about how one of these themes is used in Into the Wild.

Your job in this paper is to answer this question: what would John Muir think of Chris McCandless’s journey “into the wild” as reflected in Jon Krakaeur’s book?"

Here's a link to a Google Doc with my essay.
I'm not quite sure how to take her feedback and apply it. I think because I wrote it I can't help but feel the balance is good, so a fresh pair of eyes would be beneficial c:

YOUR QUESTION:
Can you help me blance this redox equation?

AgNO3+NaClO -> AgCl+AgClO3+NaNO3

    It's essentially just guess and check, so I can't provide a method, but
    3AgNO3+3NaClO -> 2AgCl+AgClO3+3NaNO3 should work.

Thanks for the help!

If you haven't already, you should start on other parts of the paper and come back to the intro. It's okay to skip around, just edit later to make sure it all flows together!

Otherwise, all you're doing is setting up the problem. State the problem, give a little back ground, and introduce your hypothesis. Just start writing. You can make it sound better when editing. ;3

Thanks for the advice! However, the background research portion (with the problem and everything) is part of a different paper that's already been done. Right now we are focusing on two seperate things (two seperate papers): the history of our technology, and the current technology. I can't seem to move to the body paragraphs without writing an introduction.

Just because you've written about it elsewhere also doesn't mean that all that stuff doesn't still belong summarized in your intro project, as well as introducing the new subjects you're going to write about. Science writing is pretty redundant (I've got an MS in earths sciences) because you always have to make sure that information is available to the audience.
