So, my two pound dog just ate some gum with Xylitol. You know, that substance that's 100 times more toxic than chocolate and only 50ml per pound is needed to kill them? She ate 220ml. I'm really scared. You want to know the best part? My mom. I asked her to go take the dog to the vet just in case, even though she isn't showing any signs at the moment. Her reaction? "Alrght. Just let me check it out."
It's been two hours. First, she read through an article on Xylitol. Now she's folding laundry and supposedly "looking for the source of the gum" The worst thing is that it's like this all the flipping time. "I need to get there by 6:00." We leave at 5:45 and take all the time in the world so I get there late. Every. Flipping. Time.
Now my dog can die and she doesn't even care. The worst part, I'm not even surprised. We have never had a pet for more than four years. They all either die, run away, or are given away by her. My last pet, a Yorkiepoo named Mattie was torn apart by a stray she took in. You know why? She didn't tell us that the stray didn't like Mattie and constantly growled at her. When they accidentally crossed paths...
I don't know why she does this. She doesn't take anything seriously and now our little puppy is possibly going to die because of it. Don't say that "Oh, tell her how you feel" because there is LITERALLY NOTHING I CAN DO. She just says, "Hold on. I'm looking. We'll wait and see if she starts acting weird." If the dog starts showing symptoms that means it will probably be too late.
I don't know what to do. I don't want another dead animal because of her incompetence.

hm, stubborn mum (in the least offensive way possible)
call the vets up, don't take the dog there
i read up the symptoms just now and they advice
you to call up first. maybe then they can persuade your mum.
i would just hope for the best with your small puppy,
it must be hard losing a pet. my dog has eaten chocolate before but nothing was
wrong with him, and i understand xylitol is more toxic but fingers crossed
nothing too serious happens.
these are apparently the symptoms:
- Vomiting
- Weakness
- Incoordination or difficulty walking or standing (walking like drunk)
- Depression or lethargy
- Tremors
- Seizures
- Coma
i would keep my eye out.
but as i said, go call the vets right now.
i hope you're dog is okay and good luck <3

I finally convinced my mom to call the vet, so she's doing that now.
Luckily, she seems fine at the moment. She usually teeters a little when she walks, but is walking like she usually does. So far, it looks like she didn't swallow any gum and only chewed on it, so hopefully it isn't too bad.
Thank you so much for the advice and everything, I feel a little more calm now.

So I'm really scared right now. The thing is my dog is getting old, he's a German Shepherd Chow Chow mix and he's currently very healthy and still acts young even though he's 11 (almost 12). But the thing is that my older brothers keep on talking about what we'll do if he dies or just bringing it up, and it really scares me. He's been there for most of my life, and although right now he's perfectly healthy (except for he has seasonal arthrites and it's hard for him to move when it gets cold) I'm so afraid he's going to die. My brother was talking about how some things like euthenasia and it was really bothering me. I don't want to think about how my dog might die sooner, and I don't want him to, I'm just so scared...I know he's healthy right now but I can't help but worry >_<
Also when my brother was talking about euthenasia and how if Aerek (my dog) get's really sick or is in so much pain when he gets older we'd have to put him down, I kept on thinking about when I watched the documentary "Earthlings" and they showed clips of dogs being euthanized and that scarred me for life, I know it's supposed to end their pain but it still makes my heart break thinking about how the dog doesn't know what's going on :c
I'm just so worried about him now that he's getting older...
I know I'm being immature and I know it's part of life yet I'm still so scared >_<

Ah dear, I know just how you feel - and it really isn't easy.
My precious greyhound Archie (who I've had since I was practically still toddling) had to be euthanized last year in autumn. He was so old, and suffering so much, we knew it was for the best. But that doesn't make it less hard - putting a pet to sleep is damn horrible, and my family have had to take that decision on a few occasions with late hamsters, cats etc. There's just one thing you have to remember - keeping an animal alive just because you want to keep seeing it isn't fair on the pet itself. You'll know when the time comes, and when it does, maybe send me a PM? I can help comfort you <3

im on my phone so pardon any spelling mistakes
I have loads of links for people feeling anxious but I can't link them right now,
but you'll be okay. Sit back and breath. It's okay to feel anxious about whatever it is.
Try and distract yourself; maybe by reading or watching a movie
Drink a warm drink
Good luck <3
(I'll pm you the links once I'm on my laptop!)
