TYPE OF QUESTION: Math - word problem
YOUR QUESTION: Lila and Sheela were given some beads. While making necklaces, if Lila uses four times as many beads as Sheela, Sheela will still have 932 beads when Lila has used all her beads. If Lila uses half as many beads as Sheela, Sheela will still have 221 beads when Lila has used all her beads.
(a) How many more beads did Sheela have?
(b) Altogether how many beads have they been given?
(This isn't technically homework - I'm revising test papers from previous years. This was in Singapore's PSLE, meaning it's for twelve-year-olds, and yet I can't solve it. D:)
okay so I dont know if it was a typo or something but I not only googled this
problem and tried 5 million ways to do it myself but I asked a TON of people to
for some background, I am a college student intending to be a chemical engineering
major. right now I live in engineering specific housing. I have not only asked everyone
I know in my grade who is part of any math or science oriented field, but I also asked
almost all the upper classman I know as well. everyone says something is wrong with
this problem whether it be the wording or something else beacuse if a bunch of
engineering students (mainly from the chemical or mechanical choices) can't solve this
problem then either we shouldn't be accepted into our major or something with the
problem is wrong otl. I like to think my engineer parents do in fact understand basic
12 year old math as well not to mention I asked a friend in astrophysics which is a crap
ton of math in and of itself (hell I even asked my 12 year old brother if he saw something
we all didnt when I was doing my rounds) so I guess is there a typo or something? I would
be happy to help
either way best of luck with future problems
on this note you can sign me up to help with math (everything up to college calc + physics)
and science (im best w/ chemistry and worst w/ biology) if you wish
I can also do history (Cultures of the Ancient Mediterranean minor specifically if interested)
