I'm so confused.

Synesthesia is a thing where people associate some things, such as words or sounds, with other things, such as tastes or colors. For example, many people on this thread including myself have word-color synesthesia, where we'll associate words, numbers, and/or letters with colors or perhaps textures or other things of the sort. Take the title, for instance. Depending on the severity and type of syn a person has they may or may not actually see/experience the color/taste/sound/etc -- I can say for myself that I have a fairly mild case of synesthesia, so while my number 3 is green I don't actually see or experience green when I see the number 3. It's just green "in my head", if that makes any sense.

Everyone with synesthesia has it slightly differently, though, so my experiences certainly don't apply to everyone. There are also many other types of synesthesia than word-color.

I hope I've explained this adequately, feel free to ask more questions if you're confused.

Woah!

thats so cool.

I've been re- reading this thread and it all makes sense now!
It's awesome how people can also TASTE things.

I personally don't have synesthesia, but I think it is one of the most fantastic things. Although, I do have a question for sound-to-color synthetes: What do you see when you hear music? Do you see wavelengths? Just color? Does it impair your vision?

Sorry if I sound nosy, I'm just curious :3

Well, hello there! I'm Aquarius, though you can call me Quari if you'd like. I enjoy books, writing, playing piano, drawing, and video games. I'm in tons of fandoms like Undertale, Sherlock, Transformers, Star Wars, the Matrix (does that even have a fandom?) and more. I'm a bit of a science nerd, mostly astronomy and physics. Shoot me a message if you'd like to chat, fangirl, whatever!

For me it is closer to seeing wave lenths, like the drops of water in the bucket, but receny at a family even I noticed one voice (a womans choral voice) was a pale blue but the males (* singing?) voice was pink. Again I only recently started experementing with what I see. Ambient, so called white noise, is much like watching static on a old tv but on mute. I honestly don't know how else to describe it. Since it has always been there it is not exactly destracting but I imagine it would be if it was new or unexpected.

That's very interesting! I suppose it would be hard to describe it if you've had it all your life. Thanks for answering!

My synesthesia's fairly mild so I don't "see", persay, but it's sort of a brown-maroon color for me.

I believe I may have mild synethesia? For example, "Friday" is always orange to me, "Thursday" is purple, and when I feel pain of any kind, I automatically think of the color maroon.

The word (or name, which I love for a name personally) Robyn is a dull red for me, with a small hint of green fading at the 'n'.
