I HAVE A QUESTION!
TYPE OF QUESTION:
I'm actually only seeking advice. It's a college/university thing, so I'd prefer if someone with that experience could help me. It has to do with a writing assignment.

YOUR QUESTION:
I have to write something that makes me sound impressive and suitable for a university of my choice. I'm not actually sending it in-- it's simply an English assignment. It sounds simple enough... however, I have nothing to praise myself for. I have no interesting accomplishments relating to the field I want to be in, and the most impressive quality of mine would be my drive to gain knowledge. However, I cannot write 300-500 words on that alone. I googled the best qualities in a historian. I mean, I have them, but they're really not impressive. Most people have critical thinking skills. Many people write well. How can I make myself stand out?
Sorry that this is so long.

When it comes to this sort of thing, most accomplishments, regardless of irrelevant they seem, can be turned to your favor. Believe me when I say, most people adjust their own truth to make it sound better and praise themselves a little more.

Last year I did an internship where I was just.. essentially helping out the secretary. But during my presentation (I'm studying a program about design) I managed to milk the experience for as much relevant material as possible, and my teachers were pretty impressed.
It's hard for me to help you out with specific examples, since you didn't really give much to go off of in terms of your own experience, but just find as many positive qualities as you can, and find ways to use them together with the accomplishments and experiences you have had. It's okay to exaggerate things, as long as they are still realistic and possible. Exaggerate your own emotions and the things you learned, put more emphasis on your drive for learning.

Sorry, that's because I'm young and therefore don't have much experience (yet). I collect antiques and similar things, I write essays on historical subjects in my free time, and I once went to Colonial Williamsburg. I'm afraid that's all I can think of!
Thank you for your advice-- I will try to over-think things, then. Combining positive qualities with over-thought experiences sounds like it could be useful. Thanks again!

You should stretch the idea of as you put it, "your drive to gain knowledge". That is definitely a positive trait about you. It makes your list of potential careers all that much larger. The main question a university will want to have answered is, as you even said, how you can stand out and succeed.

Start with this: Why do I want to be a historian?
Come up with a simple enough answer to the above question. Then try to expand on that. You could relatively easily write multiple paragraphs answering that.

Then say: What other careers might my personality and intellectual status help me in?
This will (if this was actually to a university) show a university that while you will work towards the job you want to have, you would also be great in other jobs and have the (must I add useful) ability to adapt to multiple work spaces.

If you need anything else, feel free to pm me! Besides school hours of 7:45 to 3:08, I am totally free!

Thank you for the advice! Those two questions are incredibly helpful; I think I can work off of them.

I HAVE A QUESTION!
TYPE OF QUESTION: Math
YOUR QUESTION: I was absent from school the day my math teacher taught mean, median, mode, and range (and mean absolute deviation). I have a test tomorrow, and I need someone to explain these to me and how to solve for them (I already know median and range). Thanks in advance if anyone helps.

I PM'd this first, but i'll just post it here so people know i answered. c:
the mode is the number that appears the most. so, let's say you have this list: 5, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, the mode is 5.
the mean is the average in a list of numbers! so you add em all up, then divide by the amount of numbers there are. so let's say you have the previous list, it'd be: 5 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 + 6 then divided by 6.
those are simple examples, but i hope this helps!!
