Well that's the truth of it all. The sun will explode but not for billions of years and we will definately be long gone by then.
Actually, the Sun in only half way through its life... (Or
main sequence stage, at least?)
It will become a red giant, and become bigger, engulfing the Earth. It will then become a planetary nebula then white dwarf, and then after that, a black dwarf. (Which is when it has NO energy left). It is not the kind of star that becomes a black hole, although that would be pretty cool. ^^

Well, after it finishes its "Red Giant" phase, it will explode to become a white dwarf, then a black dwarf.
The stars that become a black hole are ones that are first formed with higher mass, then become supergiants eventually, then after a while become black holes after they too, explode.

The Sun has been around about 5 billion years, and it has about 5 billion more to go. I'm pretty sure that none of us will be around by then.

I find it kind of depressing that the apocalypse is going to be in 6 billion years or so, unless a meteor or something gets us before then... because that's about when the sun expands into a the red-giant phase and the earth's gonna be burnt like toast D:} I read that in National Geographic... *stares at sun that now seems ominous*
(Correct me if I'm wrong on the years thing.

I can't remember that kind of thing for my life.)

The weight of water,

the way you made me

look past everything I had ever learned.

I'm quite an astronomy freak myself, so I'll be stalking to see if any good conversation develops. ^^[/bookmark]
