Well, I haven't actually started marching band yet, but I will be this summer. I love to play my clarinet, even though those high notes are still a bit harder for me to reach. Currently I'm in corcert band. It's almost upsetting because all of my best friends are in strings. O well... I haven't been to band camp before and I'm hear different opinos on it. What do you people say about band camp?

The best way to solve this is to practice, practice, practice. I notice my breath support decline when I miss just a day of practicing. ^_^

I try to practice at home but my dog whines and whines. It's so annoying and he just sits beside me whining and crying. He doesn't even get up and go somewhere else. Anyway I'm lazy. :P

my dog freaks out when I play a high C or above (i play alto.. does anyone else?

Anyways, *plays clarinet and piano*

People keep telling me that playing clarinet helps alot to learn piano. Is that true?
I'd really like to learn piano, we have one, but no one will give me lessons =(

yes, I have been playing panio for 4 years and you have no idea how much that has helped me!

I highly disagree. o-o I think the clarinet is the hardest instrument I've ever played (Play the piccolo normally.) It tends te just suck the air right out of me, and I have to fight to make the notes sound like they should. D;

yes, i'd agree. I started out on clairnet but swhiched over at the begining of the school year in 09 and boy is there a difference with air amount! wih the clairnet as you said would just such the air right out of me and I wouldn't get too many of the notes! (my fingers were too small to cover up the holes :( ) So i enjoy the alto much more! it has no holes but keys and it is very easy to blow through! I am really hoping that we can raise enough money for our shirts that will say "bank geek and proud of it" just like spottedsky said (we go to the same school.

yes I love the saxaphone!there is sooo much you can do with it! Play load and hard or soft and peacefull (i prefer to play loud and hard when my brother is home from school just to annoy him! hes 10)

which saxaphone do you play?

You're not stupid, your friends are if they treat you like that. Besides, 2nd clarinet is just as important as 1st!

ya! in my band i am the only girl altoist and I am ALWAYS stuck with the 2nd part. I got frustrated but my tracher said "2nd part is just as important as the 1st part, you need a 2nd pard to balance out the song otherwise it would crash! Even though 2nd may not feel as fun for you it usually is more important than the first part! and your friends are stupid and not very good friends to saay things like that to you! I have only played alto for a year and at the beginnign of the year i SUCKED! but practice makes perfect and I might be in wind ensamble next year! just don't give up band and practice practice practice!!

I personally think that there's no "easiest instrument" or "hardest instrument--" each instrument has its difficult points and its easier points. For example, I've noticed that it's more difficult for lower brass players to project sound, but a piccolo's sound can travel quite a distance. On the other hand, I've had people who play valve instruments say to me, "how do you play that instrument since it has so many keys?" There's one of the more difficult points of playing a woodwind. ^_^

And, of course, there's the matter of prespective. I play flute/piccolo, so naturally other instruments are more difficult for me to play, but I wouldn't expect someone who plays the violin (just for sake of example xD) to find playing the flute easy (and vice-versa; I've tried to play my sister's violin, but couldn't even make a sound).

So, there's my two cents. :3

Fufufufufu. C:< Piccolo rules over the entire band. Play a high Bb, and that should be enough to shut anyone up.
(Even though the trumpets brag to be the loudest instrument in the band, they aren't. >3>)

Im a huge band geek/nerd :P

Yay! Finally another baritone player!! :)

We have 2 in our band :)

yup my baritone and me go many places....i think i just have a natural talent for instruments becuase hand me any instrument you want and by the end of the day i can memorize just about every fingering, position what ever youd like to call it for all the notes as well as play a song or a few. i started playing the clarinet when i was 10 and before then id never picked an instrument up. I taught my self to play and when i was 11 i joined my school band and was 1st chair. Im not trying to brag i just think its odd that i can play just about any instrument. To me they are all equally easy. clarinet is the easiest to me just beacuse the keys are pretty much in the same order as they are on the music. Brass is easy though too becuase you only have 3-4 keys. i can play a 3 valve or 4 valve euphonium/baritone its not hard to me i also play the alto horn, trumpet, fluggle horn, tube and many more im only 19 so ive only played and instrument for about 10 yrs and well i can play over 15 instruments. Sorry if it sonds like im bragging im just working this out in my head because it just seems so ood that i can do all this in this short of time. is any one else multi instrument talented like able to play more then 5. The only instrument i havent at least tried is sax and i despertly want to learn the bari sax i love how it sounds i even played bass clarinet before

Ahahaha, if we blast it, we can be. I was in lessons a few days ago and my band teacher's office kind of echos. I decided to blast a high D or something and the guy sitting next to me like crouched down and covered his ears xD

One time we were in a parade for marching band, and I had to hold out a high F in one of the songs. That day, I spotted a little girl covering her ears, and a small dog running behind its owner. xD

I've had trumpet players ask me how I play with so many keys. XD It's so funny. After a while you just learn the keys by heart. But with like clarinets they can be easy but it takes a while for you to get used to holding it and keeping your cheeks from puffing out.

I'm an honorary band geek: A piano student and general music lover whose friends all join the band while she is stuck on an instrument far too large to march with.
