Rant about this thread:

Half the time it seems like people just use this thread to brag about their RPing skills and prove just how much better and literate they are because they type a novel every post, have the single greatest characters in the history of the earth, and use perfect grammar.
It's a rant thread, use it as one. Not as a chance to boost your ego every time you meet someone who, God forbid, hasn't been RPing as long as you or puts as much effort into their posts. =P

(not directed at anyone in particular, this has just been really bugging me for a while)

Anyways, I haven't been able to use one of my favorite characters because he doesn't fit in with any of the RPs I can find. Shouldn't be that hard to find a stray dog RP.

As for unique characters, I don't think slapping a mental illness on a character makes them unique. It makes them pretty flat and boring most of the time because people make that define them and hardly flesh them out. And if you get the symptoms wrong, people are either going to want to slap you across the face or laugh at you. It can be done well, but I personally don't like to.
I guess my most unique character would be Baron, just because he's a complete idiot who freaks out at the sound of a car horn or just about anything he hasn't seen before. Which is a lot, considering he come from a secluded farm and is now stuck in the city. Though he's less unique and more just really fun to play.

Hear hear. The truth is out.

This is like the crap that went down in the trade rant thread, with people coming
there to only be dramatic and whiny and then unlock their trade groups just so
'they could come back later and show all the bad trades'.

No one here is interested in hearing about how long your posts are. We are here
to read and respond to your ARRRGH moments in RP.

While a "ARRRGH I POSTED 5 PARAGRAPHS AND THEY REPLIED WITH ONE LINE" is a totally
legit rant and I'd personally blow a gasket over that too, it isn't really nice to deliberately
go looking over RPs that look illiterate and then copy-paste all the posts here.

Also, if someone isn't up to the standards of your game - either DO NOT ACCEPT THEM,
or blame yourself for letting them into the RP in the first place. All that huffing and puffing about
how this and this person isn't up to your game's RP standards after you accepted them into
the game is more than rude, and also rather laughable.

First of all, do these people have any idea of how many people in the world suffer from
some form of mental illness/incapacity? It is hardly 'original' seeing as it is everywhere.

Plus slapping some depression or anxiety disorders on a character with a bland, typical
personality doesn't suddenly make it magically AMAAAAZING.
Especially not when people just tend to get the symptoms wrong anyway.

I once came across a RP character who was described as Schizophrenic. Okay so, those
types aren't generally very well functioning in society unless under some seriously heavy medication,
but I was willing to give the player a chance. I've played against amazing writers with
mentally 'quirky' characters before - perhaps this one wouldn't be so bad?

Turns out the character actually suffered from Dissociative identity disorder which mind
you is NOT the same as being Schizophrenic. Not. At. All.

Either read up on the subject, or leave out the mental disorders.

I have to agree with this. First off - I mostly write one liners in my role plays most of the time. Does this mean I am a completely and totally illiterate person? Or that my role plays are such? No. It certainly does not. I, for one, don't find role playing fun at all when I'm forced to write out one or two paragraphs, even if I'M the one forcing myself to do so. Sometimes I simply write short replies because I have other things to do. However, should my detailed mind decide to make an appearance, I can easily turn one post into a five paragraph post. And mind you, I'm saying this as having been a role player for two years now. I've been everywhere from using asterisks for actions to posting ten paragraphs. I know what's literate and not literate - I choose to be illiterate. Keep this in mind when ranting - some people you're talking about could be the same way as me. But personally, I don't think you should be going out and bringing back quotes from random role plays unless you are IN them.

And personally, I don't care if your characters have these special disorders. If you don't play them well, they're useless anyway. One of my characters has seizures, he's the only one I've ever had a 'disorder' with. Do you know why? My dog has seizures. I've seen how they work and what happens when you have them. Therefore, I can discribe it pretty well to you. So I'm just going to say this - if you don't know much about it, don't role play it. You will fail horribly. Do your research, then apply it accordingly.

I have to say this has been on my chest for a while because it seems everytime I check this thread you guys are ranting about some thread you saw while looking for literate role plays or something or ranting about the way random people's characters look. It just seriously bugs me because it just seems you guys are flaunting off that you can have bigger, more discriptive posts with 'better' developed characters. Which is another thing - why do YOU guys care how OTHER people's characters are? If I want an albino character I'm making an albino character - you have no right to criticize my choice with things such as "everyone does that".

Sorry, but I just had to get that off my chest. That's the end of my input. 8P

I think it's like any roleplay/fanfic. As long as the cats are not claimed as their own and used for profit and the author is credited, then it is ok. As long as there is no financial profit, there isn't much you can do. :\

But what I do have a problem with is when they join in a RP that has specific writing quota rules and they completely ignore it. '>>
People can do whatever they like as long as it doesn't effect me.

I, personally, as a writer and a roleplayer, would never let myself write anyless than a paragraph.
Because then I start writing less and less.
I use roleplays as writing practice, so I'm not going to slack at it. xD
But that's just me. /shrug./

If you guys don't like what I rant about, then don't read what I rant about.

Rant:

I joined a yuri RP on Gaia.
And.
Just want to shake someone.
All the characters are the same, over and over again.

Bisexual scene girls that party too hard and are just bratty.

Every two seconds there's a girl fight, which gets annoying after a while.
It's become far too dramatic even for me.

So. I found a great RP with a limit of four girls and four boys. I worked hard for my form, resized a picture twice, tried to make my post pretty, checked it five times. Two people post before me, both with one girl. Their forms aren't that great, but alright. The owner accepts them. I go to post my form, and five seconds before I do, somebody fills the last female spot. Life, why do you hate me so much? ;_;

EDIT: I officially love the owner of this RP. She actually accepted me. <3

I agree with Clowesia, this is a rant thread. That pretty much means people can rant about whatever they want about RPs. Don't like it, don't read it. Simple.

When people use the same character over and over. I personally like my fox character the best, but I make sure to use all my other ones too.

That last bit there is totaly uncalled for, no one called anyone elitist, and no one
is claiming to know 'who your are' or 'what your views are'.

I was ranting about people who pop in here, spam something about people
they don't even RP with, make a giant deal out of it, are extremely rude and
blame others for their own shortcomings.

No one was implying that this thread should not be used for ranting about totally
aggravating things - it was simply stated that this thread is a freaking heap of spam
of people picking at things they aren't even part of and know nothing of only to stroke
their own ego.

Next time, please at least read the entire post before totally exploding all over the thread?

And in case you took that first part as a "HOMG PEOPLE SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO WRITE
CRAPPILY YOU HAVE NO RIGHTS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS", check again.
Personally I cannot stand one-liners and bad spelling and bad grammar. I'm a complete 'nazi'
bastard when it comes to the quality of the text, and my posts tend to be of serious lenghts.

What pisses me off is people coming in here, posting up some one-liner that is obviously
written by some kid with seriously no writing skills, and then everyone laughs and points
fingers and says "Well I write THIS long posts! Why doesn't everyone else do? I mean, I am good."

The reek of bloated ego then merrily floats about the thread and people who might actually
want to rant about something here - you know, something actually new other than the same old
ZOMG ONE-LINERS!!1!!! - might take offense and just leave instead.

Diabolic states all. I don't care if you rant about people who post one - liners in your thread or all that stuff, it's when you go and and you LOOK for it to quote it here that completely puts me over the edge. How would you like it if someone like Christopher Paolini, a professional book writer, looked at your most recently posted role play post for no reason, copied it, and showed it to all the other professional authors and completely picked out everything wrong with it, said you put no effort into it at all, said your grammar was horrible, said it could've been much, much longer, and then completely made fun of it? It's basically what you're doing to all these other people. Last I knew this was a thread for ranting about aggravating moments you've come across WHILE role playing.

And as stated, this is a rant thread. I am allowed to rant here about what I want as long as it's related to role playing. If you don't like my rants, don't read them. Simple as that.
