Which came first, the chicken or the egg? Debate

Since a chicken is a product of evolution, in a way, they both came first. If you want to go all the way back to when we all were just little cells, I'm not sure how life could've formed but I'm guessing it was from some bacterial phenomenon on Earth. Fast forward some time later and a chicken was born out of an egg. The chicken we know today was probably a deformed mutant back then, and then it bred with its kind to form more mutant chickens. So technically, the chicken we know today came from an egg. If you want to talk about the cell the chicken originally came from... who knows? No one knows how life originated on this planet.

I just revisited this thread and read the past couple of pages, and I thought I'd just add my take on this discussion. (I also thought I'd cover up the fact that my theory appeared to be somewhat fabricated according to others' logic. ) It has already been reiterated enough, I feel, but regardless of your religious beliefs I think it's just blind ignorance to fail to recognise that evolution happens. It clearly does. Just to add another supporter to the scientific explanation of how chickens came about. I feel this is somewhat of a losing battle, trying to explain something using scientific understanding to somebody that won't listen.

On a slightly related note, did you know that whales evolved from deer?
