i used to argue with housemates over this constantlyyy!!! so funny to see it come up on cs.

my take is that i dont think it really matters IF you're cooking ready meals/frozen pizza/etc, but if you're cooking food from raw, i think it's gross to not preheat because the food isn't getting the proper amount of time to cook and undercooked meat is a great way to get sick.

it feels like im waiting longer overall if i don't wait for the oven the preheat, because i have to let the food cook longer to cover the improper temperature... whereas if i just wait for it to preheat, i don't feel like i've wasted time xD

Usually, yes. But that's because I bake more than anything. A lot of recipes will mess up if you don't preheat. Like they'll actually taste really different.

Otherwise I rely on inner temperature and experience. It's rare for me not to preheat an actual oven.
It feels like if you're deep drying, yes you can toss the stuff in and let it warm up but it's easier to just get the temperature of the oil to the correct heat and then toss in your frying. Idk.

Ovens are gentle yet powerful creatures that need to be treated with patience and understanding... and that means always preheating them.

Especially for baking. My cookies come out disturbingly wrong regardless, but its still important to preheat ( or they'd come out worse :'] )

Yes, it cooks at a predictable and reliable rate this way. I don't use the oven a lot (I can't really cook, not yet at least), but I'm a firm believer in preheating ^^

A regular oven? Yes, absolutely! If it's a toaster oven or an air fryer, I'll usually preheat, but not always.
