BAND THREAD FTW!
I play Clarinet. :) My entire family is very musical; mom plays sax, dad and grandpa are percussionists, (and the guy I like, and there's a funny story about that...:P) My brother plays flute, my grandma teaches choir and piano.

I mydself started in 5th grade, and unfortunately that program has been cut, leaving students to start and instrument in 6th grade. :( I've been 1st chair ever since 6th grade; in 5th grade we didn't have any. I've been taking private lessons alongside my band classes since I was 11. I had to switch teachers when my middle school director retired and my lesson teacher came to be our new teacher.

I will be going to Honors Band in may, and I made it into the top band in my highshool as a freshman next year, which I'm fairly excited about. :D I've loved band since I began to play, and I'll be auditioning for jazz and marching band as well as being in concert band next year.
"What's the football team doing on our field?" - Marching Band

About the above, Every woman on my mother's side since my great-grandmother has married a percussionist. So I believe I am destined to fall in love with one, If I haven't already. :)

Oh dear...I'm sure nobody wanted to know that much. ^_^"

EDIT: My dad's teaching me to play snare, and my mom's teaching me sax. :) apparently according to them I catch on fast.

OMG A BAND GEEK TOPIC!!!!
I'm a major band geek. =B Im an advanced clarinetist, an up and coming tenor saxophonist, an already amazing pianist... Etc.
Marching band for us every year is the parade that my town holds in celebration of the fair that sweeps through town around late august/early September. Our roster:
On Wisconsin
Eye of the Tiger
Louie, Louie
Hang on Sloopy
Green Onions
And lot of different options...
I could go on all day about what we play in band...

Lol the Intermediate Band at my school played "Eye of the Tiger" recently. Surprisingly I found my band playing "Disney's Magic Kingdom" on YouTube a few minutes ago. XD One of the clarinetist's parents must of uploaded it. Man, we don't sound so good back in September. >.>

Eye of the tiger is basically our school song so we need to sound good playing it. (Actually really On Wisconsin is our school song but Eye of the Tiger fits us better :) and it doesn't suck as much.)
My favorite of those all actually Is Green Onions. It's really fun in Clarinet, switching between high F and high F sharp...
Oh yeah. Ive attended two honor bands this past year. ^^
next Tuesday we're going to a CSHAA Band festival up in Greeley, CO. Hope we RESIST TALKING (Blame it on the four Js- James, Jacob, Joel, and Jesse) and get a one, which is best. *crosses fingers*

COLORADO BANDS FTW o:

I wish our bands went to competitions and the like, but we only do that during Marching Band Season. >3> I only remember going to one competition outside of Marching Band, and that was for 6th grade jazz band. Loong time ago to me. xD

That was out problem for our recent band festival, but it was the percussionists. -_-" one in particular who had a large problem with talking, being distracting, and improvising his own parts.
It turned out okay though, we got all 1s. :) But we don't get to go to state festival until highschool.

You sound like you've been playing clarinet for a while; mind if I ask how long?

Yay CO!
I'm one of the two senior trombone players in the top band at my high school. I'm going to Europe to play with a Colorado group this summer. I also play in a trombone quartet (we pulled 1's at a solo & ensemble festival 2 weeks ago).

Ive been playing for three grades or about four years. (Is that right? fifth, sixth, seventh... Yeah.)
ronnie1232 wrote:love myz clarinet.i have 3 @ home.

Three??? WOW. I have two. E flat and regular. You must have like a bass and a tenor or something. but if you count all the instruments I have in my house, there would be... Two clarinets, two saxophones, (C and tenor) Piano, Bass guitar (my dad's, in very bad need of repair... six. :)
PastCat wrote:...I also play in a trombone quartet (we pulled 1's at a solo & ensemble festival 2 weeks ago).

AWESOME!!! my band teacher plays in a trombone quartet too. Ive heard them play quite a few times. Theyre really good.
