I'm a Christian and a furry and I'm doing pretty well. But I kind of have a "don't give a f***" attitude about everything so I think that helps.

Furry is a silly hobby. It's a fanbase full of people who enjoy giving animals human qualities, that's really what it is in one sentence. There are freaks and geeks and divas and everything in between, but every fanbase has that. Being a furry is on the same level as being a fan of sports or Star Trek or collecting coins, it's just a subset of geekiness.

Not to downplay any of your issues, but I honesly don't see how a goofy subculture can cause an existential crisis.

I have to agree with Wendigo on this one, but if you really do need advice, here's my two plans;

I think you should maybe show them an anthro picture of an animal (cute and innocent one, of course). Say you think its cute, and ask them the same. If they agree, maybe tell them you've been thinking about the animal and that you'd like to design one, and maybe make a costume of one for Halloween. If they accept, take it from there, introducing more furry culture to them a bit at a time. Once you think the time is right, tell them you are a furry and explain all the things that not all furries are...nutbags who do things like beastality. Tell them you want them to accept it as a part of your lifestyle, because you have.

Or, for the suit, say its for Halloween and wear it, let them see you enjoy it and if they approve tell them.

Those are my two rather bad ideas for you to try.

Or better yet, don't bring it up until you absolutely have to. The common thread I hear with young furs who try to tell their parents is that they bring up the wackos without prompting and thus inadvertently paint the very picture they were trying to avoid. "So I'm a furry. There are lots of people who enjoy dressing up in animal costumes and humping each other. BUT NOT EVERYONE IS LIKE THAT."

The "BUT NOT EVERYONE IS LIKE THAT" will be totally ignored in favor of the "WHOA wth" statement that just preceeded that sentence.

The justification I use is that yeah, there are wackos in the fandom. But there are wackos when you go to the grocery store or walk down the street. The fandom is small enough that whenever someone does something stupid and dramatastic, everyone knows it within the hour and puts up notices to stay the eff away from wolfcreeper1.

XD I tried to explain the concept to my parents without mentioning that I was even a part of it and leaving out all the wacko [censored] and they still make fun of Furries. Not every family will be able to be mature and understanding about things that are different from they way they live their lives. (Plus they're both in their sixties, so the huge age gap really separates us a lot =P)
I just decided not to tell them. Why put myself in that situation. If they ask, I wouldn't deny that it's a fun hobby for me, but really, why should I care what they think about it? I like it and I don't participate in the unhealthy aspects, so I really don't see a problem with just being me. =P
Also, I don't recall any Christian beliefs that say you shouldn't be a furry, so . . .

oh look, see what I did thar? I used that nifty little button called 'bookmark' so I didn't have to post 'marking' and spam before I actually had something to say. >>

I agree with what is said above.

My mother knows what I am, but we dont talk about it.
My friends 'know', but they dont care.
I dont got running around saying "IM A FURRY" every time I go to the mall.

But its differnt for everyone.

I personally don't care if my family knows I'm a Furry. I don't know why. My mom knows I draw anthros but I don't think she has a clue what Furries are.

I don't really want a fur suit though. Only if I fell deeply in love would I get it. And so far the only one I'm in love with is this one. Though if I did more research I'd probably find more I love. XD

The whole Fursuit thing is starting to get to me' because the one I was supposed to get was cancelled. I'll not forget that, as it came at a time wen I really needed to get it.

But anyways, I like the amount of fun memes there are to do on FA via journals.

@Callisto - Bwahahaha! Chips

Christian Furries - I'm a Christian as well. (In fact, my RL name means "Believer of God".) Not only that, but I'm LDS (Mormon) so it's natural for people to believe weird things about me. (ex - Polygamy, devil horns, space aliens, vampires, etc.) I don't have go out and say "I'm a Furry". All I have to do is draw anthros and beg my Mom for an awesome new comic. (Nordguard!) Although, if people ask I let them know what a Furry is. I usually say it's someone with an interest in anthros (and with the way CSI shows it, it's a really messed up interest in anthros). I don't get many problems because I'm naturally anti-social and this town isn't very big.
