I'm currently writing a university essay, and I know the chances of people knowing/answering/ even giving their opinions of this question are very slim but I thought it would be worth a shot anyways!
The question is this:
Describe the key elements of the abiotic environments of the two Polar Regions and
explain why there are both similarities and differences in these physical systems.
Literally, any input would be greatly appreciated!!!
Okay so I'm assuming the two polar regions being referred to here are the Arctic (North pole) and Antarctica (South pole) so that's what I'm going with in this answer unless stated otherwise. Abiotic elements are the nonliving factors of the environment that affect living organisms and ecosystems. The types of abiotic factors that can be found in these regions include:
- *Temperature
*Wind
*Rain
*Snow
*Sunlight
*Soil
*Rocks
*Permafrost
The biggest difference between them is rainfall: The Arctic receives 100 inches of precipitation each year, mostly in the form of snowfall. Antarctica by contrast is a polar desert, which is a really dry area with less than 10 inches of precipitation. Here are the sources I used for this incase you want to learn more: 1 2 3
I do hope that your essay goes well! ^^
