When naming chemical compounds, the first step is to decide if it is ionic or molecular (covalent).
A little review;
An ionic compound is a metal and a nonmetal bonded together
A molecular (covalent) compound is a combination of nonmetals

Selenium and chlorine are both nonmetals, so we will name this as we would a molecular compound (if you need help figuring out why this is, I'd be happy to explain further). When naming molecular compounds these are the rules that you must follow;

-Name each compound as its elemental name, but with a prefix that represents its subscript in the chemical formula
-If the prefix "mono" would be used on the first element, drop the prefix and just name the element
-The most electropositive atom is named first, and the other is named second
-Add the "ide" suffix to the second atom you name
--there are tables of prefixes online that correspond to each subscript, but here are a few;
  • Mono = subscript of one
  • Di = subscript of two
  • Tri = subscript of three
  • Tetra = subscript of four
  • Penta = subscript of five

So let's look at your compound, SeCl[size=85]2
Selenium is the most electropositive according to the problem(I'm going to assume you meant selenium and not phosphorous when stating the problem). Therefore it should be written first. It has an implied subscript of one because there is no subscript listed, so its prefix is "mono;" however, we eliminate the "mono" prefix in front of "selenium" because it is the first element.
Chlorine is listed second, and it has a subscript of two, so its prefix is "di." We also add an "ide" ending. Therefore, we write the name of this compound as
"Selenium Dichloride"

I HAVE A QUESTION!
TYPE OF QUESTION:
how to study, ahah

YOUR QUESTION:
ive been finding it difficult to bring myself to study for tests (and midterms, coming up) because not only is the task of actually getting myself to a table and thinking "ok. this is it. study time!" extremely laborious, i also have trouble focusing on one thing for long as my mind is constantly wandering, and i just dont know an effective way to study!
Any and all tips will be greatly appreciated!
This has been such a problem, haha. i just can't find any motivation whatsoever!

Something that helps me is I like to create a goal of my studying. Instead of "I'm going to learn the material" I think, okay "I'm going to make this study guide" or "I'm going to make these flashcards." I personally really like study guides for concepts and flashcards for anything you have to memorize, because both of these you learn while you're making them, and you learn while studying them. If your instructor has given you a list of what you need to study, use that, or if you have a textbook, they usually have some "key questions" at the end of the chapter, first go write those down, now you have a plan. Now you can say, "okay, I need to know how to answer these 30 questions," that's a lot easier to split into chunks for studying than "I need to know the material from this semester." Get yourself to say "okay, I am going to answer these five questions, then I'm going to take a five minute break." In my opinion, it's best to take a break doing something like walking around, getting a snack, stretching, doodling, things like that, so you don't get too distracted on your break that you don't come back and study. You can break it into chunks the same way with flashcards; "I'm going to study this set five times then take a break."

You can even start smaller. Take 10-15 minutes and either look through your notes or look through the textbook and write down all the broad topics you covered and a few key points about each, don't write that much. Once you've done this you have a plan and it only took you 10-15 minutes. You can even do this a week before the exam so that when it's time to start studying its easier to sit down and do it because at least you've already done something. Now go back and look at each of your key concepts on more detail, decide "okay I'm doing 3 concepts then taking a break." (I like this method better for science and math classes because you get to focus on problem solving methods, for humanities I like to use flashcards for the factual information I need to know.) For each concept write down the method of solving that type of problem, or the information you need to know. Once you have written down all the concepts and refreshed your memory, now do practice problems. The practice problems will seem a lot easier because you've already refreshed your memory. I usually like to make a concept guide one day and then do practice problems the next, or even spread it out over more days than that. That way I don't overload myself with having to do everything in one day.

Okay, I have more I can suggest so feel free to ask, just wanted to post a few C:

Extra festive bug wrote:Hey, I was wondering how you do fractions on a calculator? I normally use a scientific calculator.

    Some calculators have the ability to flip through various forms of the answer (fraction, rounded decimal, repeating decimal with bar notation, whatever). Look through your manual, yours might have that as a hidden option.

    Alternatively, you could use fractions the whole way through your solution, which might require changing some denominators and extra mental math.

    Alternatively #2, if your result is a good (non-repeating, finite) decimal, you could take the decimal, multiply by 100, then put it over 100. (That sounded vague, so - let's say you get 0.25 as your answer. 0.25 = 25/100. This is the kind of thing I mean.) Then, simplify, (25/25)/(100/25) = 1/4.

    (If it's a repeating decimal, you memorize the patterns for the more common ones if you work with them enough,
    1/7 = 0.142857...
    2/7 = 0.285714...
    3/7 = 0.428571...
    Notice how it's the same 6 numbers in the same order, but starting from different places every time in an increasing pattern.
    Anything in the form 0.xxxxxxxx is x/9. (1/3 and 2/3 are simplifications of this.)
    Anything in the form 0.xoxoxoxo is xo/99.
    etc.)

Adding on, I've seen some calculators with a function that lets you input fractions directly in an equation without having to convert to a decimal, so for example you could input three fifths as 3/5 instead of 0.6, if that's what you're trying to do? You would have to check your manual or Google to see if yours can do that, or ask your teacher if they can help you figure it out.

This has been such a problem, haha. i just can't find any motivation whatsoever!

It's a small thing, but I find that listening to music or having the TV on while I study helps me concentrate much better and longer than if I try to do it in silence, I think maybe because it can get exhausting trying to focus entirely on one thing for very long. Having something not-too-distracting going on in the background can divide your attention just enough to take away that stress. c: Just make sure especially if you turn the TV on that it's something you've already seen or aren't that interested in so it doesn't draw away too much of your focus (I like to put on Netflix and just let it run through episodes of a casual show I've already watched a dozen times and am very familiar with).

I'd recommend taking plenty of breaks as well. Just get up and walk around for a little bit whenever you start feeling tired or overwhelmed, or if you're someone who needs to be more strict with themselves, try setting a timer for, say, 15 minutes of studying and then a 10 minute break and repeat. Along those same lines, it might also help if you don't just say to yourself "Ok, time to study!" but "Ok, time to study for one hour!" or "Ok, time to answer these two pages of questions!" That way you have a set end/goal in mind for your study period and that might make it easier to stick with it and not get distracted and quit before you're done.

hi there!! im exactly the same haha. i dont have a very strong attention span or i focus on the completely wrong things.

in the past few years, i have discovered that caffeine helps me a lot! not too much, just a cup of coffee. i drink coffee and tea often so two cups is what i might do sometimes ^^

i also usually have something playing in the background, usually a podcast, sometimes game grumps (let's plays of games ive already played, or dont necessarily care if i watch them play it), just something that can run in the background. podcasts kind of help get my brain going i think because there can be a lot of really intriguing conversation!

also, make goals! its kind of hard to be like "i need to study all this for my exam this week" (or if youre me, literally today wish me luck lmao) so i try to start with baby steps. like, yeah i need to study all this. well whats the thing i think im most familiar with? im going to work on that. i think most people would work backwards, with what they know least, but i do the other way so that in the worst case, i have at least a couple things down pat ^^ so i do that right. but HOW can i study it better. maybe i should look up a quizlet review? or, you might be the type to review lecture notes/video/slideshow. or, even a youtube video that covers the topic. i personally like reviews online and as bad as i am at reading, i will sit and take notes from the book ^^; but only on the things i need to write down.

i also make sure to take PLENTY of breaks! but try to not take breaks like going online or on your phone. i find more and more that doing that for myself makes me want to abandon whatever i am studying more and more.. so i become more prone to goofing off. instead, when you take a five/ten minute break, walk around! stretch, go pet your dog or cat if you have one. lie down on the floor for a moment. do some lunges, stuff like that! physical activity helps your brain focus.

speaking of that, i feel at my BEST when i exercise before i do stuff! if i go for a run and stuff and i get back and shower, i feel very energized! i initially thought it would make me tired because i am a very tired creature, but it is the opposite! so if you are able, do some kind of light exercise like running or jumping jacks and situps, pushups, ride a bike, whatever you like! perhaps even just stretching a lot or cracking your back. you have to build momentum to get you through it ^^

    Here's how I understand the question: you need to work from the inside and rotate and reflect PQRS as given in the equation for ABCD.
    So, first you'd reflect it across the y-axis, then rotate by 180 degrees (I'm assuming it's a rotation around the origin because a rotation point isn't given), then reflect across y=4, as in my diagram below.

    You end up with the quadrilateral ABCD, which then needs to be translated T(x,y) = T(0,-8) to map onto the original PQRS.
