I have a few rosebushes that I want to try and propagate cuttings from but I haven't had any success with that yet. I'm interested in using them for teas and to make beads with.

I just started my own mushrooms, from a kit I put together in a class I took for it the other day, so I'm looking forward to seeing those fruit. They're oyster mushrooms. My dad is super into mushrooms and mushroom growing and he has some he grows too.

Welcome! I love your FR dragon. Growing mushrooms is a super fun hobby though I am still not fully decided on what kind I would like to grow myself yet. Honestly this is a hobby I pick up and drop due to time constraints but my partner has really gotten me back into it. I'm super excited to start growing herbs!

I love tea! What kind of fruits, veggies, and herbs would you like to grow? I also love that you are gardening with your grandma. That such a special way to build long lasting memories.

I've been reading the replies to this thread and I never considered growing mushrooms! I might have to look into that now. I mostly focus on herbs, some vegetables, and flowers/flowering plants.

I want to note that I am only growing in pots currently because I haven't had the time (or money) to make an area in my backyard. I'm hoping by next summer I can have something set up! Even if it's small. I really want to try growing some fruits like strawberries or grapes. If not, I'll have to hop on the community garden bandwagon earlier - they're very popular in my area and the spots filled up before I was even aware it was a thing haha. Gardening in general is actually pretty popular where I am🤔there are definitely a few people on my block that have dedicated gardens (evident from the farm soil deliveries in their front yard XD).

Last summer I had a lot of plants, lost almost all of them from a fungus gnat infestation unfortunately (my entire house was overrun too since I brought them in for winter </3). I was actually only able to save one out of close to probably twenty. It really sucked :( . I also saved seeds from the tomatoes I grew, unfortunately none survived the transfer to a larger pot. I've been pretty unlucky this year with most starts dying on me, but the ones that have grown are doing pretty well - as well as the fact that I somehow revived one I thought was a goner for sure.

I don't have too many plants growing right now - I believe I have some asparagus, beets (radishes? I honestly forget ), lavender, rosemary, daisies, ivy, and a couple other flowers that got mixed together so I won't know what they are until they bloom. I was looking at the plant zone for my area and it makes me excited for next year! I might look into starting up some more veggies for a small harvest (like cucumber or beans) since there's still 3.5 months roughly of warm weather (give or take). But I'm not too sure yet.

I'm also super pumped because in my construction class right now, my teacher is letting me build a plant stand (it's gonna be 2.5' x 1.5' x 1/2'). It's honestly a really decent size for the materials being free which I'm super grateful for. I might post progress and/or the completed project here if anyone is interested! It's most likely going to be finished by Thursday since it's then exams on Friday.

Honestly I think that’s one of the beauties of gardening is just when you think you’ve expanded into everything there is something else that pops up that you can try! Personally myself, I’m mainly a flower individual but I won’t lie that a few different plants like monstera or Chinese money tree have caught my attention on and off

I’m also currently a pot grower! I’d love to have a full rose garden outside, but right now I’m still learning my growing conditions as I moved to an entirely different area than the one I grew up in (plus from the plants that I do have outside and what my neighbors have, I’m not so sure my environment supports a lot of things very well either due to just to much heat or really rough water conditions). I know some gardeners who are actually growing small fruits like strawberries inside, so that’s always an option if you aren’t able to set up a dedicated area by next summer!

Honestly, I’m so sorry you lost most of your collection to the infestation! I’m personally someone with severe entomophobia so the idea of bugs is enough for me most of the time to high tail it the other way (which 100% I’m definitely in the wrong hobby for my phobia  ), but actually having an infestation is horrible and I’m genuinely so sorry you had to go through that. When I went to repot my roses, I had no idea fungus gnats were even a thing and that you shouldn’t open bags of soil inside the house until you check them outside. I ended up bringing a brand new bag of soil into the house, opened it only to have fungus gnats fly out, one of the absolute most disgusting and horrible things. We managed to get rid of them before they had the chance to cause to much trouble, but it was an absolute waste of good soil and the money that I spent on it

If it makes you feel better, I’m not sure what growing zone you’re in but a lot of people across the board in my country (which has a large range of plant zones) this year have had issues with their starters or just seeds not coming up at all. It’s so cool that your teacher is letting you build a plant stand! Definitely feel more than free to post progress shots or even final shots here, it’s plant related so it’s more than welcome here! ~

I definitely feel you on propagating the cuttings, I’ve heard roses themselves can just be really difficult to propagate sometimes which is why I’m going to try from seeds (that and I also want some other colors of flower besides my current variety  ), oyster mushrooms are definitely some fun ones to grow!

Honestly any mushroom is kinda fun because it’s so cool to watch them develop and grow, I mainly watch the ones I get outside after a solid rain storm

Thanks! the mushrooms have done really well, which I am happy about.

This year I'm doing tomatoes, peppers, squash and cucumbers. I also started some herbs, many of which got killed by the heat, but I have some basil still alive. I also have some lemons I started in a pot from seeds I saved from lemons from the grocery store which I am hoping do well. I'm probably going to start more herbs and just keep them inside for longer because I really want them to survive.

Ya my country got slammed with an unexpected heat wave, so both my indoor and outdoor plants (even the native vegetation) are just getting slammed royally, it’s definitely something that can be disappointing so I hope your basil manages to pull through!! ~ 💕
