With my hair (i have curly/wavy hair) i find that blow drying my hair makes it very, very ,very poofy x3 i'd suggest a diffuser if you want to dry it quickly but i air dry mine.
I also use some scrunching gel, i can get the band stuff if you want, and put than on once my hair is about half dry.
Thats about all i do xD All that seems to keep the frizz/craziness from my hair soo if your hair is like mine it couldn't hurt to give it a shot ^^

I have hair that is curly/wavy and sometimes my hair goes like that, too.
I've actually never straightened it before, but I'm sure I will some day.
Are you sure that blow drying your hair on high would help? I would say on medium might be better, and maybe getting a cool-air blow dryer. Hope it works for you. (:
