Where I live (in US), there are many different traditions. Lots of people go to other states to meet with the families. I have a Christmas tree, decorated with all the usual ornaments (star on top), lights hung on my porch, and a pretty wreath on my door. I am expecting other countries do this too, but what do I know. We also have had an Advent wreath with the candles and Poinsettias. My mother likes setting up a Christmas village with snow everywhere. Some people I know don't decorate the tree until Christmas Eve.

In the UK, we often decorate the houses with lights (varies) and many children also leave a 'Santa, Please Stop Here' sign. We usually put up decorations in the house and decorate the tree a week or two before Christmas. In my family, we put the cards on a large piece of string hung across the mantelpiece, so they don't go all over the place. As a kid I would leave out biscuits, milk and carrots for Santa and his reindeer's. If we get any early presents, my mum usually puts them in her wardrobe and we get them on Christmas day. As I'm part Ukrainian we generally don't have the traditional Christmas dinner and have Borscht, Vareniki and Holubchi instead as it is a family tradition. We usually leave our decorations up till the 19th January (Because of the Ukrainian Christmas) which is considered unlucky

Signature in progress A.K.A Can't be bothered to create one...

Is it because (i know some scandinavian countries still use it) you use the Julian calendar which is a few day ahead of the gregorian calender (what most western countries use nowadays) so when it's the 12th on the gregorian calender, it's the 19th on the calender.
/i think you have christmas around......the 1st of january??
