Drawing Tablet Recs?

Postby dogoholic » Sun Apr 13, 2025 8:23 am

So after a while of using my Samsung s24 ultra as a tablet w/ anydesk (holy eye strain) since my XP pen artist pro has been giving me trouble, I think I'm in the market for a new tablet. I've been doing a lot of thinking and research but I figured since there's SO MANY artists here I might as well get some input from you guys!

I'm heavily eyeing the iPad pro, since procreate and portability is very appealing to me. However I'm not opposed to a tablet that hooks up to my laptop. I'm partial to tablets with a screen because I'm spoiled lol.

What tablets do yall use and would you recommend them? Any price under $2k, I plan to open up commissions again soon since I plan to turn to art for a side hustle again due to my career not bringing in enough money lately. Hopefully that's temporary :P

Side note for digital artists without a tablet: if you have an S pen or stylus, GET ANYDESK. IT'S FREE AND WILL MIRROR YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN TO YOUR PHONE. I used this method for my oekaki that I posted a while back, as well as Animal Jam Classic masterpieces. Yeah it's a tiny screen, but it works!!

I use Procreate on iPad Pro as well as CSP on Huion Kamvas Pro 13 (the oldest one, not the Gen 3 one!). I quite like the both of them to be honest and the Huion Kamvas 13 is a pretty affordable way to dip your toes into a laptop-connected screen tablet if you'd like to try.

Personally speaking, as a casual artist the iPad Pro suits my needs well enough and the portability is certainly a bonus! However if you're doing heavier work, I find that Procreate's features are rather limited, and I sometimes need to turn to my Huion instead. I'm not sure how CSP is like on the iPad as I've never tried, but one of Procreate's flaws is that resizing things makes them blurrier (something about not using vectors?) and that the layer edit options tend to be more limited too.

Hope that answers some of the questions you had - happy to talk if you have any more! :)

Well for most travels I use a surface pro 11. when I want to I use a huion tablet. Both using Clip studio paint. Huion will be cheaper and I got this a long time ago. its lasting me a long time so far. close to like 10 years and changed the nib once so far.

The size of my huion is 22inch and I dont think being sold anymore but im sure there are some just as good ones. Mine was around 500$ too.
