Houseplants!

Postby Silkesmyra » Mon Dec 13, 2021 7:30 am

Are there anyone else in here that collect houseplants?
What do you have, how many?
Your biggest vs smallest?
Newest leaf?
Most recent death? (What sort of plants dies in your care?)
The one you're the proudest of (today)?
...

To answer my own questions, I very much do collect houseplants. I collect Pelargoniums (common name geranium), Epiprenium (common name pothos), Philodendron, Aglaonema and a few other random species. And by few I mean I have maybe 20-30 different genus of plants and 182 plants in total. I breed my own pelargoniums, but each generation takes over a year so I don't know if I have anything worth naming yet. I can't take care of Syngonium nor Coleus or Calathea. But I have a croton that's been alive through lots of phases and still not died, had it for years. Also manages to keep Alocasias alive (when I want to). My pride and joy right now is this Alocasia 'Stingray'.

Hi!
I can't say I'm a plant enthusiast but I'd like to be a plant owner, I think plants make the room brighter, and that's exactly what I need, especially during winter ^^''
What I mean to ask for is proper advice from people who have experience in knowing which plant is suited for the right person. I'm a student, my apartment is on the smaller side so I wouldn't like a huge plant, just one that can sit on a shelf. As for sunlight, that I got covered, but the weather in my country during winter is really gloomy and cloudy. During holidays I leave home and I'm not in my apartment max. 2 weeks, it depends honestly, so a plant that doesn't require watering for a longer period of time would be adequate. The air is dry often since it's a small space.

To sum it up - I want a plant that doesn't require a lot of attention.

The last thing I've gotten my hands on was a basil seed. The said basil died within a week due to me replanting it and not giving it a proper thought lol. I'm open to any suggestions, thanks in advance!
