CC was dumped as a puppy on one of our friends pourch. After 2 weeks of no call from an owner (they put of flyers everywhere), they decided she was available for a new home. But, they had 4 dogs already (Thats not a lot in my book but thats just me), so they called us up. The wife came over for a chat, and casually mentioned a Lab that had been dumped on their pourch. My mom saw where it was going and made it clear she was not interested. The wife (im not comfortable giving out her name;]) shrugged and commented that she was "a beautiful Chocolate Lab, they would have no problem finding a home for her." And thats when my mom agreed.
To explain further, about two weeks earlier, I had just come home from a friends house when My mom pointed out that there was a large male chocolate lab on our back pourch. He had been wandering around, and my mom had tied him on a long line behind the house, just to make sure he wouldnt get lost. What blew her- and me- away was the way he reacted to my little brother. My brother has AS, a form of autisum that effects his ability to control himself and stay calm. We were hesitant to let him near the dog. My little brother climbed all over that poor thing, and it never showed an ounce of aggression or even fear. He just licked my brothers face and wagged his oversized tail. After a few hours, my old friend came looking for "Bear", the lab, knowing he had probably wandered off in our direction. We were sad to let him go, but it was of course for the better...
... because if it werent for Bear, we would have never agreed, and we would never have had such a loving, beautiful Lab of our own, as we do now. CC is now a cerified therapy dog. She enjoys sour fruit and "talking" with grunts and "growls" (of happiness). She knows over 35 tricks, her favorite being "Rocket Dog", where she springs up into the air, usuing mostly her back legs, at a maximum of 8 feet. Her back legs are 3x bigger than her front from that trick due to the muscle that has developed ;] She loves people. She is an escape artist, and often runs off for about an hour into the woods surrounding our house.
Please post here if you have a story to tell about your best animal friend.
