used to be about baby mouse, now need help on a hog

Postby animals00 » Mon Jun 06, 2011 7:45 am

Well today at the wildlife shelter I volunteered at 2 baby mice were brought in, both pink and about 2 cm long, they are tiny! eyes are not open, no hair, we're not sure how old but no more than a day old!
we had trouble feeding them, i attempted to and kinda failed I think as one died
however I just found a way with the end of a needle, hard to describe but I think it works
being the animal lover that I am, i took it home (well both, one died at home) as the others dismissed them as no goes (and they are probably right) BUT I want to try anyway
hwoever, no one has ever had any this young!
so does anyone with pet mice have any tips?
do you know how fast they grow?
How often will it need feeding?
Will it need feeding at night?
and any tips on how to keep it alive!

I am feeding it cimicat (kitten replacement milk) with some avipro (an anti stress thing)
i also have a hedgehog =} but am not worried bout it!

EDIT: If you're more of a rat person, please tell me for rats, as they're similar
RE-EDIT: any rodents in general will help =)
RE-REEDIT - mouse died, now need tips on how to make my hedgehog go potty without it curling up =/ (it needs stimulating as it's still a baby

My friend had a hampster who had babies, and we would watch the mother to make sure she didn't eat the babies. It was hard to see, but I think she fed them hourly, (most babies get fed every one to two hours)

oh thank you! I've been feeding her quite irregularly but that does help =D now i know when to feed ehr ^_^
did she feed them at night? i need to sleep cause I have a really big exam tommorow, but I guess i could wake up in the middle of the night if needed, just I'd rather do it when i know it will help!

Yeah, it needs to be fed at least every 2-3 hours, I believe. If it was with its mother, she would feed him at night.

Does it have a milk band?

to be honest every rodent info would help! or baby in general!

I will go and check for the milk band, although I'm not too sure what it looks like -.-

for size it looks like this - Image

although obivously there is something wrong with that one, but yeah, tis about 1/2 of my little finger

does it need feeding less often at night then? I know baby birds need feeding every 4 house at night instead of 2 hours during the day

Can't see the picture but there should be a white band on the baby's belly showing it's been feeding.

Also, what are you feeding it?

Found a guide for you - http://www.rmca.org/Articles/orphans.htm

It doesn't look very well, it's taking in deep breaths, I have checked and there is no formula up his nose =/
it did a poo though, so I guess that's good
