hey! i'm rat. i am a rat breeder. i would love to have a place for other breeders to come together and discuss care, misconceptions, and answer common questions. this is mostly small animals in general, not necessicarily only rats.

My rat just have birth today, how old should the babies be before I clean their cage (I would need to move the hut they are in to move them but as they are so small i don't want to potentially injure them.

holy moly this is late. still replying for future i guess! you can handle rat babies pretty much as soon as they are born, although i usually wait a few hours at least. theyre pretty hardy little things, unlike hamsters/other small mammals rats dont eat their babies if they smell you on them. as for cleaning cages i usually like to wait 2 ish days to make sure mom settles in and gets used to caring for them before any other major changes happen.
