Omigosh, I am SOOOOO excited.
Now, you may wonder what all this fuss is about. It's just a kitten, for God's sakes! But the fact of the matter is that this kitten will be a very special kitten.
In all of my thirteen years upon Earth, I have not been able to get a cat. And, now.... I'm getting one on Friday!!
How it originally all happened was that my Mom and I were at the eliminator's round Spelling Bee in the mall on Saturday. I made it into the Finals (10 people), and will be going back sometime at the end of the February.
There is a pet store in that mall, also, and there we went. My Mom showed me this REEEEEAAAAAALLY cute cat -- a white one with blue eyes and a light brown patch on her forehead. We handled her, and she was very nice. I also held a little tiny tabby that clawed me, and climbed up onto my Mom. It was funny.

We went back yesterday with my two little sisters to look at her, and....

Turns out, the minute we walked into the shop, she was sold. We were all disappointed, but she went home with this couple that looked VERY happy to have her.

So, we decided to look at the tiny tabby that had clawed me earlier, instead. She is a dark brown tabby with big grayish-greenish eyes, and a white underbelly and paws. In a way, she was nicer than Snowball, since Snowball was kind of aloof. The tabby meowed at us, and when we put her back, she sat at the door and meowed at us.
Oh, but the best part is yet to come!! Last night, we voted, and decided that her name would be "Ribbon". After my Brazil Nut Eating Test (I'm not allergic to Brazil nuts! Yaaaaay!!), me, my Mom, and my Dad went to the pet store together, around noon. He held Ribbon for a long time. He was very calm, and I think she picked up on that, since she just stared around calmly while he stroked her lightly.
I looked at his face afterwards, but it was unreadable. We think he liked her; we always have to get past him first if we wanna bring ANY new animals into the house. Anyways....
We ended up putting her on hold. The problem with this is, other families can still see the kitten. If they decide they want to buy her, the pet store will call you and you have half an hour to get over there and pay for her, so that nobody else can take her.
I stayed home for the rest of the school day. My Mom and I drove to our vet's office to ask some questions, and we went to a few different pet stores to ask for some advice, too.
By the time we got home, we simply decided that there was too great a risk that Ribbon would be sold at some time when we weren't able to get to the pet store. My Mom called the pet store, and asked them to make sure Ribbon would still be there, since in a few hours we would come to make our deposit on her.
I picked up my little sister from school, and my other sister came on her bus, and we lazed around a little bit, and then hopped into the car!! By that time, my Dad had already left for work. He never said yes, but he never said no, either.... *nervous laugh*
Well, anyways, we paid for Ribbon, and a bunch of stuff at that store and another, so now, we're all set!

Now, why didn't I just adopt, you may ask? Well, my Mom and I are both -somewhat- allergic to cats. Actually, I might not be. The only place I have ever reacted is the SPCA -- and I'm allergic to the cleaning supplies they use there. My Mom never had any reactions around her friend's cat, so we don't know....
The big idea here is that if we are indeed allergic; well, kittens produce less Fel D 1 protein, am I correct? Well, since we had absolutely *NO* reaction around Ribbon, as she grows, she will slowly produce more of that protein. And we'll get used to it gradually.

Thanks for reading my tl;dr post. See ya!
