I'm getting a cat!

Postby no . » Thu Jan 26, 2012 6:28 am

Yeah, I've been thinking of getting a cat. I've went to see a cat and I have reserved it. I'm picking him up in 2 weeks!

The current pet I own.
Right now, I live with my 9 year old Stafford-shire Bull Terrier, Rio. He is good with cats, I know becuase I took him too a friends house and she owns lots of cats, I let Rio off leash to roam the house with the cats. He just gave them a sniff and that was that. So, I don't think he will have a problem with a cat.

Living Space.
I live in a flat. I'm hoping too move out soon, that's only if I persuade my boss to increase my working hours so I can get a little bit more money. So, yeah, living space ain't that bad.

Money wise.
I have to admit, I'm not the richest person in the world. Most of the money I get goes towards the mortgage and tax. But, I do have enough money for the needs of a cat.

How long will I leave the cat at home for.
I never really leave the house. I really only leave when I have to go to work, which is the weekends and Fridays. 10 PM - 3 AM.

Well, I think you would be a good cat owner (I own lots of cats.) They are pretty easy to care for, you just need to play with em', feed and water em', and scoop litter-boxes. Litter is pretty expensive (if you buy the good stuff, like me.) And then there's vet bills, but they are fun to be around!
They can be fine on there own, I leave my cats alone all day to go to my aunts house, and then give them lots of attention at night, and it works out fine. What kind of cat are thinking of getting? I would recommend getting a cat from a shelter/rescue. The adoption fees aren't that bad and you would be giving a cat a good home

Well, I'm not sure if I want to go ahead with getting a cat yet. But, If I did go ahead and get a cat, I would probably ask a close friend of mine for some contacts (She is a cat guru xD) or get from the shelter.

Cool thinking on getting a cat from a shelter but what kind would you want like a cat or a kitten?

Preferably an adult. I don't want to be leaving a kitten by itself with a fully grown dog.

You're thinking of moving right? i would wait until you've moved before you buy a cat as tehy can easily wander back to their old home which we don't want. There are ways around that but i think this would be easier. Also if you have time for a dog, you definitely have time for a cat XD I mean dogs need walk and take up a lot more time. bless 'em. but i would still be careful with your dog, as even though it was friendly with your friend's cats, that was their home, not his. You will need to introduce them as he's a powerful breed and friendly as he may be, he could get terratorial, or the cat might get defensive and the dog retaliate. just a thought...

Sweet any way there're mostly adult cats in shelters.
So have you seen any that you like so far?

I haven't checked any shelters yet, I might visit some websites though, and see if they have any cats for free or for a low fee. Like I said, I don't have much money to waste. ;)

I think you'd be a good cat owner, as if you you have enough time and commitment, but you need to be careful about the dog. He is a powerful breed and although he may be really friendly with your friend's other cats and stuff, but they weren't in his home and he may get protective or territorial if the other cats are brought into his home. He might be good but you would still need to supervise if he wasn't in case the cat took a dislike to the dog and scratched it or whatever and the dog retaliated. poor dog could easily kill it accidentally if he tried to play with it too roughly too.... although i think you should still get one, i agree with the shelter cats, as tehy're older, and just remember to take precautions.
