I personally use hanging wire flower baskets as a hay rack ! They're a dollar at the dollar store and I hang them above my buns' litterbox . However, it's still pretty messy . A large cardboard box with a couple holes cut into it might be less mess ! But would need to be replaced occasionally . A similar hay feeder made out of wood instead of cardboard would probably do well to keep things less messy too ! .

It been a while since I've mentioned my bunnies in the thread !!

We are finally out of our temporary living situation and I was able to make a rlly nice pen for the rabbits and take the time to bond them ! We've changed Leila's name to "Dandelion" because we figured her old name was attached to all the bad vibes of her heavy neglect . Dandelion also matches Volkswagen's name in the sense that they are both puns ! Volkswagen Rabbit and Dandelion the lion head LOL
They have been enjoying being able to run around more freely and get chances to stretch their legs . At this point Dandelion is bigger than volkswagen !! I haven't weighed them recently, last time I did she was lighter than him by a pound . Dandelion turned a year old sometime in February .
Volkswagen's birthday is coming up !! Two more days ! He was born on the 9th of this month . When we go to the store today we are gonna pick up some bananas ( his favorite food ) to celebrate . He is going to be turning 4 this year . He is growing so old it breaks my heart . I know that rabbits live 10-12 years but he is my first pet that has a longer life span ( I used to own rats who have a lifespan of 2-3 years ) . He has moved around with me when I left South Carolina and moved to New York . With me when I moved in with my boyfriend . He's just been with me through a lot so him getting older makes me sentimental lol . He is such a handsome boy and I'm still as obsessed with him as I was when I first got him 4 years ago . My naughty, rude boy ! Everyone always says "he hates me" or "he is so mean/evil" and while I can't help but agree that he is ornery and pushy, I still love him so much . 🎉

Ooh! Good idea!
They are so cute!! Happy early birthday Volkswagen!

Super cute bunnies and two fuzzballs haha

My buns are doing great, even my single bun Tikki.
I'm looking for a new partner for her, but he has to be already fixed (as I don't have the space to keep him seperate for the time being) and not EC positive. Somehow I can only find either or at the moment... or giant breeds that are too big for the bunny room. ^^; kinda hoping that a few "Easter bunnies" will be returned to shelters in a few weeks or that some surprise shows up.

Yesterday I got Echo and Zola some stacking cups (which I’ve been meaning to do) but I didn’t really think they’d like them all too much because they aren’t really into plastic toys, but within a few hours the cups had been thrown and pushed around with some teeth marks as some proof that they enjoyed them lol

I also went out to our untreated apple tree to collect more sticks for the bunnies! Romeo goes through them SO fast!

I also mentioned writing a rabbit care book a while back, small update; it’s being edited! I’m very excited! C:

Right?!
I bought them a slinky and you wouldn't believe how many times I had to untangle it.

Completely updated post:

We were gonna get two lion lop rabbits but the lady literally left us hanging and never got back to us after saying she would sell them to us. Ngl they probably got really sick, she gave them food they shouldn't have in large quantities (half a carrot, like, the big ones) and they were only 3, 4 weeks old.

But, tomorrow we are going to the shelter to adopt a fixed male rabbit to bond with Froppy. We went today and looked at the rabbits, and they have plenty so hopefully the one I have my eye on will still be there tomorrow. The employees said it would be best to get a fixed Male instead of a fixed female since Froppy isn't fixed herself, and my parents don't want her to get fixed.

I have a pen to keep him in my room, hay, and I'll be buying more stuff on the way there tomorrow. I'm using the last of my money (I had to quit both my jobs) which means I'll have to do a couple one time jobs to get money in order to pay for his check up at the vet before I decide to bond Froppy and him for sure.

I'll have to slowly get him used to living outside. Like, Froppy is used to fireworks, dogs barking, loud music, people yelling, and all that stuff. Even the neighborhood cats she's used to seeing (they don't pay attention to her, and she's practically the size of all of them lol) With fourth of july coming up, I definitely don't wanna just toss him outside. I did some research and i guess I'm jsut supposed to do it a couple hours a day, and work up to him being outside overnight. He is used to dogs barking since he is at a shelter, so that's good. The good news is, all rabbit adoptions are free rn! So I won't have to worry about paying for that.

I;m so excited, sorry this is long

Oh also, does anyone know good toys that are possibly cheap? I really can't afford to spoil my pets like I used to. Thankfully we had stuff laying around in the shed like big buckets and cardboard tubes so Froppy could play w those, but I wanted to get actual stuff that could entertain her. Or if anyone knows cool diy projects.

Cardboard and stuff made of hay attracts more ants than I would like (not like she cares, but I do), and they dissolve quicker since she's outside. her tunnel recently broke and the wires started poking out, and I didn't want it to hurt her so I took it out.

@Winstalgia

I’m so happy for you and Froppy! Adding on to the bunny family is always so much fun.
I also think it’s great that you are adopting! and taking the time to desensitize the new bun to the outdoor noises/sounds before leaving him out there.

As for toys… I always recommend interactive toys such as treat balls, TRIXIE Snack board, and Living World Teach n Treat toy. If you want toys that you don’t have to put pellets or treating I highly highly recommend untreated apple branches (big ones from untreated trees, not store bought). Or, pinecones that are prepared properly. You can look up how to prepare them on the spruce pets I believe.

Update on my 4 fur babies… Echo and Zola (my Netherland dwarfs) are bein GB trouble makers as usual. Earlier I was through cleaning the rabbit pens and I put echo and Zola in their travel carrier and they were chewing on it the whole time I cleaned… :roll:

Romeo and Gem (lionheads) are slowing down a lot more in their old age (5 & 7, not too old I guess :lol: ). They don’t enjoy playing outside their pen anymore and don’t play with any toys other than fresh apple branches. I did take them both outside any cooler day last week and they did enjoy that though!

Note* precautions were taken while Romeo and Gem were on the harness outside. I would never take Echo or Zola out on the harness because they would most likely get hurt. However, These two don’t do more than hop a few paces so the harness is only to put my mind at ease. (;

Book Update:
I am sending my book to an editor tomorrow or the following day! I’m very excited to finally be in the process of publishing it!! I’m still working on a title however… but I’ll work on that haha!
