To anyone that has bettas or has had bettas, have yours ever danced to music? and do they perfer high notes or low notes?

When i sing in my room (i was doing this because my bird likes it) and i noticed my fish was swimming around in the middle of the tank and he wasn't pale like he has been, even if i walk up to the tank. but when i stop he goes pale and goes back to the bottom or the top of the tank. he doesn't like it too much when i sing lower.

Thought I should throw in a update, so here you go. :3 I've been begged and hired on at a fish stop and apparently I am being more successful then their employees who have been at it for years. I'm put in the cichid section most of the time since I specialize in cichlids, but I've delt with all the fish since I've been there.

Tanks-
150 gallon: 2 tiger oscars (one 7 inches and one 5 inches), blood parrot (4 inches), common pleco (5 inches), 2 jewel cichlids (temporary in with oscars, breeding pair, 5 inches), 1 yellow lab cichlid (again, temporary, will be moved next week), and albino bristlenose pleco (4-5 inches, will be moved tonight or tomorrow into smaller tank with smaller fish).

55 gallon: Tilapia buttikoferi/Zebra Tilapia (1.5 inches and growing fast).

20 gallon: albino oscar (1.5 inches). Will be moved when she's bigger.

10 gallon: Butterfly doitsu koi (7 inches). Will be moved when the tank I ordered comes in next week, then put in our pond we're building probably. Still trying to decide if I trust my precious koi outside. XD

10 gallon: Flame dwarf gourami (4 inches) and butterfly ochiba koi (5 inches). Given to me by my co-worker who gave up trying to cure their ick problem and was about to flush them. I've had them for 2 days and they're doing so much better. I am aware of the koi and the heat problem, it seems to help him more and not affect him.

10 gallon: Breeding pair of golden wonder killifish. (both about 5-6 inches)

8 gallon: Butterfly goldfish/Comet hybrid goldfish. (about 1 inch)

10 gallon: 4 comet goldfish (3-5 inches), 1 Shubunkin goldfish (4 inches).

10 gallon: 1 female guppy and 10 fry. (Store sold me a bad guppy that wiped out most of my guppies.. :( Will be getting more soon).

Large rubbermaid: 45-50 feeder goldfish/comet goldfish. (Being donated to the cancer center for the children, with everything they need.)

1 gallon: Purple Double tail betta female
1 gallon: Purple Young double tail betta male
2 gallon: Black crowntail betta male.

... so yeah, my fish room is thriving really good. Fish coming in and fish leaving all the time. All my tanks will be built in the walls within a week or two to save a little space. Just thought I'd give you guys a little update.

      Well, really, everything I like doesn't fit in a ten gallon tank.. Ironic no? I'm big for space, I always like to have either more space than needed, or less fish, for example, right now I have a ten gallon tank housing just one fish; Merlin, a six year old betta. I've had mollies and saltwater fish but that's about it (actually I did have freshwater puffers), so that's why I'm pretty much open to suggestions.

      However I was thinking something along the lines of a combination of Dario dario (A.K.A. -Scarlet Badis, Red Badis, Bengal Dario) and a few CPDs as well... but do you think that the Bengal Dario would be too aggressive a fish for a CPD?

      I need some advice on filtration, temperament, and food as well though...

      For decor I think it wouldn't hurt to put a plant pot, a rock, or a piece of aquarium wood in there for a center piece. Perhaps then a bit of Glosso, Rotala Indica or Rotundifolia, a Java fern maybe...

      Obviously I will need a hard light, so a higher wattage. I know this is going to sound like a stupid question, but what do you guys think would be a good aquarium hood for a ten gallon tank? Not that I don't have one, but I simply got a reptile one because originally, that's what the tank was bought for, but I never got around to buying an actual light for it..

Sorry if I'm not posting often. I've got a few things going on in real life. I've also been having week-long migraines so bad that I cannot see. I hope everyone understands.

EmoKitteh: You know I don't really know...I've never tried seeing what kind of music my betta prefers...I know the first betta I ever had could always swim back and forth at the front of his tank whenever I was dancing around my room to music...cause I'm a dork...haha! Maybe they're more active because we're moving around and enjoy watching us?

Maybe but i noticed that about my first beta too, but i haven't been dancing, just practicing for choir. We have to sing "Dancing Queen"which is quite high for sopranos

i'm also doing a solo "Can't buy me love" by the beatles which is lower, and it flares at me when i do that and sometimes brings its fins tight to its body. so i practice upstair, because i can get pretty loud.

@Schipperke
Are those permanent setups for your small tanks?

@Sparrow,
I was doing some reading about the Red Badis the other night too, strange coincidence. xD;
If you could get one male Badis and 3-4 females I think you could get some CPDs too. Both species like planted aquariums and like something similar to a stream setting and I think the plant choices would work well. I think I saw a youtube video with similar plants. Maybe a needle leaf java fern would look good with the other choices. edit; here is the video I saw. (:

As for filtration a HOB would be alright, I'm fond of the Fluval Power Filter. For a cover, I don't know if you really need one if you want a planted tank, a lot of people just ditch the lid and set up a good lighting system. For food you could stand to feed them live, frozen and pellet or gel food I'm sure. n.n

@ everyone --------- cool little video of Copella (aka Splash/Splashing Tetra)

Just thought I'd share because I find this so interesting. ^^;

I hope these are not permanent set ups. 10 gallons is not enough room for one goldfish.

For double tail goldfish you need 20 gallons for one and add 10 gallons for everyone you add after that.
For single tails (comets,commons and shubukins) you need 55 gallons for one then 20 gallons for everyone you add after that.
For all 6 of your (I added your butterfly hybrid as a single tail, since it has comet genes it has potential to get really big) single tails you need a tank of 135 gallons(minimum) with a filtration rating of 270 and a GPH of 1,350.
These guys will get huge. Commons can get as big as a small koi(which also get huge), about a foot or so long. Honestly I would put them with the koi in the pond.
Im sorry if you specified that these are only temporary set ups, but I did not see anyplace that did mention that. ^^;

/RANT/
Ok, so I get on Reddit quite a bit, and they have an aquarium topic for the fish keepers. Well I came across a picture today that was titled "My new pet goldfish!" So naturally I get excited, wanting to see pics of their new goldfish. Its a picture of a Oscar with a comet sticking out of its mouth. :( Now if they want to live feed, fine. Honestly I think its a huge health risk but its their fish. That is their choice to do so. But if you are going to post a picture of a fish being eaten on a forum for people who keep fish(that includes goldfish) at least label it!! Even if you dont like goldfish there are people who would rather not see a fish being eaten alive. Especially if its one of their favorite fish. Some people just tick me off. Not to mention all the jerks mocking goldfish and their correct care. Now, please excuse me while go hug my goldfish tank....

EmoKitteh: I was watching my new guy last night whil practicing the violin, I did notice that he seemed to like "Bonaparte's Retreat" but he got really crazy when I did "Pistol Packin' Mama". xD He didn't like "Mr. Lonely"; he just swam over to his plant and rested there for awhile.

They are not actually. They'll be heading off to their new homes next week, those are just holding tanks until then. I am aware of the size of tank they need, and knew that they wouldn't be in there long.

And the butterfly koi that was given to me a few days ago didn't make it through the night. He had significant brain trama is what it looked like. I'm not exactly sure what the guy did to him.

The killifish will be leaving me aswell because I'm a cichlid kinda girl and this guy wants them for breeding, which I've gotten out of.

The guppies will be going into a 20 gallon soon because they need more space, obviously.

(Can't quote with this phone, not sure why.)
I think I'm done editing this poor post. XD Sorry for not specifying.
