Aww..sorry about your fish.

I have a friend. She has a 3 gal tank with nothing in it..yet. I emailed her the things she could get, not so much choices. I told her not to listen to the pet store people, and to know what you're going to buy before you get into the store. So..yeah. I'm just hoping she won't get convinced that she can get a goldfish without it dieing in a few days.

Hello. I'm a relatively new betta fish owner, but I'm already hooked. I've had my betta for about 2 months, and I absolutely adore him! He has so much personality and is very lively. He'll even jump a little bit out of the water when he's eating because he gets so excited about food. He has been a picky eater at times, though. Some days he'll eat just about anything (even betta flakes which I've heard don't taste very good), and then on others he will refuse anything but brine shrimp. I do like to mix up his diet, though, so I have no problem with that. Unless this behavior signals something horribly wrong with him that I'm unaware of, I think that his fussy-ness is rather cute. I've been feeding him flakes, pellets, brine shrimp, and freeze-dried and then soaked (to help pre-expand them) bloodworms. He currently lives in a 2 gallon tank with a heater, but no filter. I do change a portion of his water daily, though, so I hope that this is okay. He seems quite happy and healthy. His bubble nest is huge. lol

Is cuttlebone toxic to fish? I have three mystery snails living with my little sister's glofish. I've read that cuttlebone is good for snails. Is there any way it could harm the fish though? I couldn't find anything online that said that it could. I of course wouldn't put the whole thing in the tank though, just a few pieces. Also, what are some other good ways to provide calcium to snails? ^-^

So I need everyone's opinion...
My betta Fuen is lethargic and has been just floating on his side for days.
I've been treating his fin rot and so he is still in his quarantine tank. (Which I've been cleaning everyday then dosing with aquarium salt)
I originally thought that dropsy could be the cause of him floating on his side, but hes not been showing any other symptoms.
Then I thought that it could just be his heavy fins and he doesn't have the energy to hold them up.
He'll move and swim a bit for food but that's it. He doesn't seem to be getting any better so I don't know if I should put him to sleep or keep treating him for finrot.
I've had him for a year and he could just be getting old and more prone to sickness.
I just don't wanna put him to sleep and have it be he could have gotten better, but at the same time I don't want him to suffer.

Could it be swimming bladder issue? Like if he really has hard time going down and staying straight, that could be it(which also could be sign of dropsy, but if he's still alive then doubt it). It's not something I'm super familiar with, so I'm sure how it's treated...

I used to use a turkey baster to give them blood worms while the other fish are eating. You can also use a small terra cotta plate and put their food on it and they will learn thats where to get food.

Since I only have a betta with them now I just toss in a blood worm cube and it melts. The betta gets some worms as it melts and the frogs get what sinks.

I have also trained one to take food from my fingers and that works well too.

Nope, not toxic, however I prefer to use more natural methods of giving my snails calcium. Kale is great, plus the fish will nibble on it too. You can by underwater veggie clips meant for putting greens in, that way it doesn't float up to the top, or use a rock to weigh it down. I give my snails (we have about 40 mystery snails in our goldfish tank) a serving of kale, broccoli, or algae wafers every other day. Keeps their shells looking beautiful, and the fish enjoy the snacks as well (greens are great for goldfish). As I mentioned, high quality algae wafers are great, too.

Agree about the kale c: If you take a look at the photo I posted a few posts up you'll see my snail LOVES kale! He grabbed it about five minutes after I put it in the tank.
