    I'll only get one, then. Thanks for the heads up haha ^w^

    I'm so so happy ; u ; I talked with my parents tonight and convinced them to let me get a 30 gallon tank! Good-bye, cramped 5-gallons ;D ~ <3

    So this is my plan so far, using Aquadviser + the stock of my local fish store uwu;
    It's at 84%? But idk if I really want the dwarf gouramis (I especially don't want them to be harassed by each other or the pictus) and without them it's at 74% ~
    I just want to add some kinda really pretty, colorful fish to the tank n__n

    1 x Golden dojo loach
    1 x Pictus catfish (spotted)
    3 x Peppered Cory Catfish (or maybe emerald; is there a difference in the species besides the color? ;O;)
    2 x Dwarf Gourami

    Hm, any suggestions for what fish to be added (or removed, if the current fish wouldn't get along well?)
    I'm kind of tempted to add an angelfish (in place of the gouramis, of course, not in addition xD) but I dunno how it would get along with the other fish ; uu ;

You should get one more cory catfish. ^^ They are much more active in larger groups.
Also, while it seems silly, they can tell the difference between the different "colors" lol. Albino won't school with peppered. Peppered won't school with emerald. If I'm not mistaken, emerald cories are actually a slightly different species than the other cories. Or maybe I'm thinking about green. o.o

Cories are very peaceful. They will mind their own business get along with anything that won't eat them or pick on them.

The loach... Seriously fish says 120cmx45cm bottom tank minimum, which 30gal is not. Another problem I see, is that it likes little cooler water, 25C being the max recommended temp. Gouramis on other hand prefer temps over that 25. So imo, no dojo loach.
http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/misgurnus-anguillicaudatus/

For the Pictus, might or might not work. Had to do little research, but it's said to be very active swimmer, likes to be kept in small groups and again bigger tank was recommended. So you might have to re-consider that as well... http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=276 http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/pimelodus-pictus/

MORE corries. I had only 2 for while and they were timid and shy and just sad little things... So at least 6-10 of them.
Corries are all very similar to take care imo. Only differances are the colors(most are black, white and gray patterned, few have some other hues(blue, brown, green)), lenght of the nose sometimes(they say short/round nosed are easier to take care of) and the size. Peppered can deal with little cooler water than others, while couple other species tolerate heat more(corydoras sterbai). Emeral corries grow tad larger than average corydoras. For more corries check out PlanetCatfish. ;)

From what I've heard dwarf gouramis go better in trios than pairs. Like 1 male+2 females. I don't think it's impossible to get 2-3 females either, if you'd prefer that. Just no multiple males... Other than that they are not suppose to be aggressive towards other fish, unless they are breeding. But even then it's more the male chasing away other fish from it's bubble nest.

I wouldn't get an angelfish. It needs bigger tank(closer to 60 gal) and the tank should be also fairly tall, since angelfish get pretty tall
Can we pretend that the airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now...

I wouldn't trust a building either for any sort of advice. But if you get to talk to the people in the building, and find the ones that actually have fish tanks of their own, by all means I trust the heck out of them. Pictus don't need more than 30 gallons they only get about 5 inches. They shouldn't be housed with smaller community fish though because they are very active and voracious eaters.

Thanks, very good points everyone! I can't bring myself to let go of the idea of a pictus catfish, but I lost dojo loach and angelfish, as well as the gouramis x3 I bumped the Cory school up to 6-8 also. Hehe, messing around on aqadvisor is funnn~
I'm tempted to set up a tank with pictus, cories, glass cats, and maybe one other type of fish. I'm not really sure what though; it's hard to find one the pictus won't eat xD

@Museatron; Oh, ok, great! Thank you n___n

Out of curiosity, has anyone here ever tried a betta in a community tank? I'm kinda intrigued but I wouldn't want to risk harming any of the fish uvu;
I'm traveling til Friday w/ no access to my tablet!

Mostly quitting CS; I'll check messages on occasion but DA or Skype is probably a better place to contact me.

I have before. But you have to be incredibly selective about the community fish, nothing with long flowy fins, nothing that might be mistaken for another betta. Sticking within the tetra grouping as tank mates usually works the best. And of course bottom feeders are usually fine with betta. I've almost never kept male betta alone, they always have tank mates of some sort or another.

Hey guys! I just came home with a feeder fish. He looks like a baby Shubunkin. His spine is critically bent. The best way I can describe it is when you take an aluminum can, and crush it. Is there anything I can do for this baby? It appears he is swimming fine, I'm about to put him in his holding tank.

I'd make sure that it's not TB and be extremely careful until you confirm it's not. It'll spread to your other fish if you use the same net/equipment and you can get it as well.

Sometimes it's just a birth defect, but yes, be careful about TB.

Yes, it usually is jsut a birth defect. However, it's always wise to rule out the deadly, transmittable-to-humans diseases. xD

Oh man, good luck with the little guy TrueToHens!

Oh, okay, thanks Museatron! I'm thinking of keeping one with a little school of Cory cats, glass catfish, and maybe a pictus catfish? (Yeah, I like catfish xP) But idk how well that would work. Do giant danios, harlequin rasboras, or turquoise rainbow fish work well with bettas? (I'm kind doubtful about the last one, so large and colorful ...)
Trying to find tankmates that could be compatible with both bettas and pictus cats is awfully hard xD If I drop the pictus cat that'll probably open up a lot more possibilities .... Hm.

I went to the pet store today still trying to decide between angels and bettas, and certain my mission was only to figure out what was there so I could finish up my plans for my 30 gallon. But ...
I saw this little guy there and I couldn't resist him! Im going to do my best to make a community tank with him, though for now he has to stay in a smaller tank, the only established one I have ATM. (:C) I've never had a betta before, though my sister has had several, though I've researched a lot. If you guys have any good tips let me know<3

I know he's probably not anything special compared to all the fancy ones you can get from breeders, but goodness I can't get over his gorgeous fins and shimmery turquoise color. The pictures really don't do him justice! ;o;

Also -- for the purpose of cycling my 30 gallon -- how exactly do you do that using material from a pre-established tank, and how long does it take? I'm considering a few different options uwu;
