One of our many cats at work looking for homes finally left today with one of our nurses!

We got Bob, a male tabby about 7 or 8 months ago when someone trapped him and brought him to the clinic. He was feral, to the point of he would hiss, growl and lash out at you if you got too close to the cage. But one of our vets wanted to try and tame him, so they desexed, chipped and vaccinated him.

After months and months of us getting him use to humans, and especially after we moved to our new clinic where he was in a cage in the main part of the surgery where he could see everyone, he finally became this cat who wants nothing more to be cuddled and patted!

He loved all the other cats we have waiting for homes, rubbing against them all when they all get to run around the kennel together. He would wrap his feet around your neck and nuzzle your face, he was just crazy to be patted and played with! He was absolutely mental with a ball, today he chased after the ball, bounding off doors and walls to get it! Then he would lay and play gently with our two 9 week old hand raised kittens! Gonna miss Bob but I'm so glad he is out of the clinic!

Awh, that's such a heartwarming story! I hope all your other cats fine good, loving homes and Bob certainly would have gotten a fabulous home, and said nurse who adopted him has a brilliant new member of the family.

We have re-home a lot of cats. I think last year we had about 4 mother cats and their 3-5 kittens to re home, and we currently have two adult cats, one is a mother who had 5 kittens we have adopted out, and then the two hand raised kittens.

I have a question. My friend who owns a tabby cat at home and she never trims her cat's claws. I am a little concern about this..Is it necessary to trim it? Or leaving it would be fine?

In my opinion, as long as the cat has enough objects to scratch at, their claws will be fine- I do sometimes clip his back claws, but his front claws are always healthy. We have three scratching posts and he goes outside every day for hours, so the walking on something other than carpet does his nails good too. Though if the cat is an indoor cat, I'd probably clip them every month or two.
Been on the search for a Plumerian for 2 years, 3 months! If anyone has one that they dont want any more, I’ll be happy to work for it! I wont give up! :D

I don't really see a need, as caligulasPeri said, so long as it has something appropriate to scratch, (unlike my kitty who enjoys scratching everything but her scratching post..) it should be fine.

That's lovely. c: Keep doing what you're doing, there are many cats who thank you! It's great to know there are so many shelters like your own that are out there helping cats.

I will definitely inform her about this, thank you both for your answers :)

Once I was out trying to get these kittens who were in my yard and this dog managed to get in and went for the kittens who were hiding in a bush, one of them clawed up my hand real bad when I grabbed him and put him inside. Two stitches in the thumb, worth it for two alive kittens  And this is just one story, I've dealt with so many feral cats and just this morning I accidentally stepped on one of my cat's tails (sorry Nacho) and he decided my ankle needed to pay for it. They're like little fluff balls only with knives on their feet.

Not stitches, but I certainly have an arm full of scars :')
My old cat hasn't (purposely) scratched me in years now. The only times he actually recently scratched me was when I was bathing him (understandably he was trying to get out of the tub and out of my hands), and a couple days he tried to jump onto my table but didn't manage to hold on so he was slipping/falling off and grabbed onto my arm for support. Got 2 pretty deep scratches from that.

My young cat prefers to bite over scratching, so thats a whole different story haha.

Never cut either of my cats nails in my life. Older one used to scratch furniture a lot, but now its so minimal that it doesnt even concern us. His nails still shed normally, and I sometimes find them around the house.
I dont think I've found my younger cats nails around the house yet, and he isnt obsessed with scratching things either. We did get him a large mouse made out of rope that he loves to scratch.

I'd say it's definitely not necessary. Cats in the wild would take care of their own nails perfectly fine. It's just if you want to protect your furniture/arms from scratches, trimming can be useful.

It all depends on the specific cat and how quickly their claws grow. I trim my cats' claws about every two weeks or so, but that's mainly for my convenience. When they start to get too prickly during cuddling is when I get the clippers out!

I will say that I do trim their dewclaws for their sakes though. Wouldn't want them to curl into their paws!

Cats tend to manage their own claws well enough, my cat maintains her back claws fairly short (she chews on em as part of her grooming routine, it's normal) and her front ones never get super long, though I do clip them because they're sharp enough to do damage to me otherwise.
