:c So now we have a guppy and some tetras in our 15 gallon tank and we're wondering what we could put in there since the next time we get some fish we want something a bit different from guppies. Either something that could live with both the tetras and the guppy or just the tetras.

Mollies are very friendly and get along well with any fish.

c: Our tank might be a bit small for mollies though they are awesome fish. The small amount of research we've done says 20 gallons minimum for them.

Watching all this chat about tetras and decided to join in. ^^

In our 55gal tank we have 12 neon tetras that school very well together, 5 Von Rio tetras, 4 cory catfish, 3 chubby balloon mollies, 2 golden wonder killies, 2 angelfish (my beautiful special babies Fluke and San Diego <3), 2 Australian rainbowfish, and a huge pleco.
All of them get along very well together!
If your looking to add more little fish in with your neon tetras, I would highly recommend Von Rio tetras or cory catfish; the tetras are beautiful (half red, half yellow), and so are the cory catfish (emerald, albino, high spotted, and more) and both are very friendly and small. Another good one is a golden wonder killie. They are fairly small too. However, we noticed that sometimes Kelpie (green wonder killie), would drive Marshall (orange wonder killie) away if he got too close. She is totally fine with the other fish though, she just isn't fond of the other killie. Without Marshall around, she is always swimming around at the top of the tank peacefully.

Minimum tank size for the Von Rios: 10gal
(They stay very small.)
Minimum tank size for the cory catfish: 10gal.
(Depends on the cory, most stay very small, but the emerald can reach 3 inches.)
Minimum tank size for the golden wonder killie: 15gal or 20gal.
(They can grow up to 4.5 inches in my experience.)

What I would *not* recommend is barbs. We tried Tiger Barbs and Golden Barbs in our tank, and they were very mean to our tetras. Some people have had great experiences with barbs, but others, like me, have not.
Also! If you get a Mollie, I believe balloon mollies are better than the average mollies. When we tried to have average mollies in our tank, some of them where aggressive to our other fish. Or balloon mollies where perfect though, and personally, I think they're cuter. x3

Personally I think you could get some mollies. Mine are about 1.5 ~2 inches . Most people use the rule 1 inch of fish per gallon. So if you had a .5 in fish it would equal half a gallon etc. etc. I think the biggest average mollies get is 4 in. (If you count the tail )

c: Inch of fish rule/guide isn't all that great. There's more to stocking a tank than just the physical size of the fish. You also need to take into account things like bioload, activity level, compatibility and if they're social.
Mollies are cool and some are smaller than others but we wouldn't really be comfortable putting them in a tank we personally feel is a bit too small just for the sake of having some.

I have a 20 gal with 3 Bettas, 3 guppies, 4 danios, 10 neon tetras, 2 rainbow sharks and 2 Columbian tetras and they've all lived happily for as long as I've had them. The inch-gallon rule isn't all that accurate ^^; I know keeping bettas and sharks is controversial but I have dense plants, hiding spaces and a great filter.

Your filter can't be great enough to handle that. Your tank is terribly overstocked. Your tank would be full with just the bettas, guppies, and neons ( maybe the columbians too )

You may want to consider rehoming some of your fish.

My Danios and sharks are doing great actually, one danio got sick 2 weeks ago but I separated, medicated and fed him peas and he's perfect again. It's not that overstocked, the tetras and sharks stick to the bottom, the danios and guppies play at the top. My bettas sit in the plants. My filter is built on to the back of the tank, it's very strong and has charcoal, marble chips, bacteria balls and what not all built in.. and I do 10% changes every week with treated water. There's always exceptions when people put a lot of effort in. This tank has been running since November without a hitch..
