I now have four ottos and I was doubtful as to whether or not they would school together, since they don't really swim like other fish do in my experience. However, they all eat within the same 4/5 inch radius which is adorable, so it seems like they really do enjoy each others company.

Well I have an unhealthy "passion"

(This is Chiisai Ryuu)

I haven't seen my dad in a while(he has all our tanks ect.) and he recently emailed me saying Max, my betta, was acting old, having trouble swimming, a little gray scales, ect.(Are these symptoms of anything?) He usually was very peppy, getting protective whenever we cam eover to feed him, but he stopped for a while. He got a second wind recently and started up again for a while.
He lived for a considerably long time, even though we unfortunetly never managed to set him up with a bigger tank. I'm going to assume this is old age(he is pretty old) and he will pass soon, unless it is some illness we can treat? Are there any sicknesses i'm unaware of that he might be suffering from?

I gave my ottos some cucumber yesterday, as one was kinda looking like it was hungry(going back and forth at the glass)... They like to eat the middle part first and then they little harder part around it, but usually leave the skins untouched. XD Going to try zucchini maybe next week or so, as we harvested couple from out garden just recently. :3

Corries don't eat algae, like at all... They are meat eaters mainly. Corries generally grow around 5-8cm long, depending on the species, and then there are couple smaller species that only grow about 3cm long.

To me(almost beginner who's corries got sick recently, so googled out some stuff), gray scales could be potential sign of illness, as I've never really heard of fish going gray over old age. :? I could be wrong though.
On this page, little bit down, there's a guide called "Heathy aquarium fish", it has pretty good example pics of common illnesses. Might be worth checking out if something matches the gray scales Max has...

You can try;
Amano shrimp. They clean algae, and will also eat leftover food too! They are usually good in smaller tanks, but of course there is no limit on any fish for having a tank "too big"!
Ramshorn snails. They will eat quite a bit, like algae, leftover foods, fish eggs, dead fish... They will clean up the glass and decorations and pretty much everything with algae on it.
Nerite snails. Will eat the same thing as Ramshorn snails but be careful with these guys I had one of them and turned out she was holding eggs. Laid them and I had a bunch of babies! They lay their eggs on the glass or the bottom of the lid of your tank out of waters reach. Ended up selling them and keeping one. Also they will try to climb out of the tank so make sure you've got a good lid on it.
Otos. They are small, they are cute, and they will clean off the glass of your tank, as well as decorations. But mostly your glass. I love these little guys, I would keep them with my betta (heavily planted, so when he did manage to find them and chase them, he would soon lose them in the foliage). They do like to eat vegetables sometimes too, as some others were saying on here.

I think your best bet would be the otos if I'm going to be honest here. You can't always find the appropriate snails, or shrimp, but otos are pretty easy to find.

Thanks! I'll read through it and ask my dad if he can email me a picture.

Ok so quick question here. What snails are the easiest to breed but also fun to watch. I want personal opinions please. Thanks!
