Did you ask to take a picture of the dog? Are you allowed to post said picture?

I am not sure if it is illegal or not, but I do know that it is illegal to take pictures without one's consent and use them. Not only that, many service animal owners have had, or do have, abusers that hunt them down. It could seriously injure both dog and handler. I have known of a few that have died because of this. Please keep this in mind.

If you weren't given permission, I would recommend removing the post/picture and deleting it off your device.

heya everyone !

// so me and Logan have managed to get ourselves dragged into a local obedience competition and I'm working on teaching him the things he doesn't know but there is one thing that I can't find anywhere and have had no expierence teaching it or working with a dog that knows it either.

It's similar to a sendaway and normally used for gundogs but apparently I'm going to need it(?)
heres a video of a gun dog doing it.

It's basically being able to send a dog in a straight line away from you and getting them to stop when asked. Though I can't seem to find any YouTube videos or websites that help.

I'm working on teaching him a sendaway to a marker but I think that a straight send away would possibly help in the long run? [or so I'm told]

[also this isn't an official competition by the kennel club or anything it's just a friendly between the local dog agility group I go to^^]

I think a marker would be super important with increasing duration/distance. Use something small like a block of wood, fabric square, etc and start very close then slowly move it back 1ft, 3ft, 7ft, etc. once you get a distance going and your cue word start asking for stays at carious points.
Honey, it's in the stars
And you're my everything from here to Mars
And every word I say I truly mean
Dear darling, I hope I'm being clear
'Cause there's no one like you on earth
That can be my universe

@Cardinal,

thank you for your advice!

I've been looking into markers that I could use [even things such as a small plastic cup or whatnot ] but I'm slightly concerned that he'd become used to having something to at least target even if I do switch it out/change it often?

He knows how to stop at a random point if I ask him while he's returning from a recall but it's more I don't know how I would work away from using a marker to him just running in a direction without any kind of target?

You can phase out the target!
If you start by using a cup or a blanket or anything, just increasingly make the target smaller, and while doing this you can add your verbal cue. For my dog, I introduced “out” as the cue. If you slowly phase it out the dog will learn it really well and will not rely on the target.

Since everyone is making a big issue i removed the picture even though I was given permission and there are no laws saying it can’t be posted. Looked that up before posting along with there being no identifying information in the picture.

You didn’t really state that you were given permission. Taking pictures or videos of service dogs is EXTREMELY invasive and rude. They are medical equipment. Would you take a picture of someone’s wheelchair or cane??

The subject can be dropped. I’m not a little kid that needs to be policed on the internet. I don’t feel the need to have to justify myself on the internet. Take everything with a grain of salt or just assume the person doesn’t know anything seems more like it . This is also why I rarely post here anymore and I just stick to Instagram for those of you who have those for your pups.

Also people do take pictures of inanimate objects. I’m done here, I’ll just post pictures of the boys every now a then and looks for updates on other peeps pups.
