Hey guys! Excited to have found the group, we've started our own little rodentry, we started originally for feeders but now we breed for pet quality as well. We absolutely adore our babies, currently we have rats, mice and as of today a Campells dwarf hamster, she'd an adorable ball of floof!

Hello! I was wondering if any Guinea pig owners have nail trimming tips?
I have a pig and trimming her nails is pretty scary! After a few toes she lets out a really loud squeak and freaks out. I'm always afraid I cut too far and hurt her but that's never really the case. She also has a black foot which I really hate cutting as I once clipped to far despite what I believed to be only trimming the tips :c (don't worry I put stuff on it right away and she was fine)

So anyways I was just wondering if anyone had tips to make nail trimming less stressful for her and any tips for trimming a black footed pig. Thanks so much!

    oof
i asked my mom once again and said "well in May It will be a year since I wanted a hamster.."

My mom said she doesn't want one because she thinks they are smelly. What bedding helps with the smell? She also thinks we don't have enough room for one but there is room for one in my room. Maybe for my birthday, as we are coming home from our holidays just before my birthday. But once again i may be going back to Estonia because mr grandad isn't feeling the greatest .
    Anyways my mom said MAYBE

I miss having a guinea :( anyways, let's get to the tips

I'm definitely no expert, but I do know a few tips for dog nail trimming from online XD and I'm pretty sure they'd work on guineas too.

First, get you lil guinea used to being handled on the hands. The more they get used to it, the more comfortable it'll be. But honestly this is a dog trick btw

Get her used to around the trimmer. My dog knows the distinct smell of the trimmer, and guineas have a good sense of smell too. So maybe get her used to it? Have it around?

Treats. After a trim, how about some treats? Just my suggestions ~

Hmm a guinea with a black foot seems tough to trim. Maybe have someone holding a small flashlight to his/her foot while you from it? Since guinea and dog nails are a bit transparent ish, lights should help make the end and the root distinct. Make sure its small though and won't get in her face and eyes. It'll be very scary with all these bright lights in his/her face.

Man I am excited! Finally caught two does in heat, so should have babies on the 21st! I can’t wait to see what these pairs produce for me! Also have three more pairings in the works!

Unfortunately my second favorite doe Kiwi ended up with jacked up teeth due to injury, so I had to scrap her breeding with Killian 😭. Luckily she’s super tolerant of handling so keeping them cut down is no problem. She will live out her days as a pet here. I’ll likely be getting a few does from her breeder in the coming months which I’m excited about!

You have some really gorgeous rats there. <3
---

Guys, I'm super excited. My two rats might be getting a new buddy soon! I fell in love with this little guy below after seeing his picture online and I'm in the process of buying him.

He's already been nicknamed "Scar" by the breeder, since he was very unfortunately scratched by a cage mate when younger and now has a scar on his head. I think that I'll keep his name as that even though it doesn't really go with my other current pet rodents' names (Victor, Edwin, and Thomas). He's also apparently a complete sweetie who loves to be cuddled. So, the edgy name is kind of hilariously ironic. lol

Scar is around the same age as my two boys and so I'm really hoping that they'll get along nicely. Any tips on how to introduce a new rat? I have another cage set up near the main one that he'll be kept in temporarily. So, they'll be able to smell and see each other. Then I was thinking about introducing them together after a few days on my couch or somewhere else that's neutral ground. Anything else that I can do to make the process go smoothly?

I’ve owned many mice and while I haven’t for some years, I have really been wanting to again lately. I miss the little cuties. Every time I go to the pet store to pick up supplies for my dogs/birds I am always super tempted to get mice again >w< but I’m waiting until I am more financially stable since I already have dogs and birds

8 day baby bellies! Gemli is looking fairly large already, hopefully it’s not a huge litter though! Arizona is looking slightly more round but not as major as Gem

Kat-Thanks! They are pretty awesome, I love them lol
