Hmmm... Yeah. I guess now I think about it, my guppies were all female and didn't have the super colourful tails. So... Yeah XD

Sparrowpaw the great wrote:Well, I used to keep my Betta Highlight, in with my guppies until he died. The guppies didn't harm him, and he lived 10 years. Died eventually of old age. So guppies are an option ^^

Guppies are a little dangerous because they're so colorful and have flowing fins, so a betta might attack them thinking they're another betta. I could do dull or wild type guppies, but I'm a very vain guppy owner so my eye for pretty fish would get in the way XD Plus I have a fancy guppy tank (really want to get back into breeding!), hehe. And that's awesome that he lived so long! My oldest boy was 6 years old when he passed </3

Mnemosyne wrote:It really depends on your betta's temperament, but generally they have to live in the same water conditions, are not too colorful/flashy (which is why guppies actually aren't suggested, considering many of them are very colorful), and aren't biters.

When I was considering tankmates for my betta (I don't have any in now, but I'm considering a snail), I was thinking about snails and shrimp, which are both usually okay with bettas. They also recommend bottom feeders (like cories or loaches, but be careful of size). Just be sure you're positive that your tank can support whatever size fish you decide to get! c:

Here are some websites I've looked at:
http://bettacare101.com/tankmates/
http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art3507.asp

and this is good for general consideration when stocking tanks:
http://www.bettafish.com/showthread.php?t=47837

Thank you! I was looking at black tetras (since I already have a neon school), or dwarf frogs. I will be introducing a mystery snail or two into his tank, since we breed those (blue, ivory, and purple) so have plenty. I really have wanted loaches for ages, but no stores near by sell khuli loaches...might look at having two or three shipped.

Thanks again!

We finally got our Oscar a bigger tank. He is currently in a 30 gallon hexagon and he is about 9-12 inches long, we knew he needed a bigger tank but when we finally get some money saved up, there were no tanks. We finally found a guy who had a 75 gallon bow front tank with a stand for $200(cant beat that). We have a huge power filter for a reef tank(or a 150 gallon freshwater tank) which we will put onto it and everything. When the Oscar is moved into his much larger home I am getting a Senegal bichir to raise in the hexagon until it is big enough to join the Oscar in the big tank. I will post pictures of the tank when set up.

Eh guys? Which of these do you think would suit my new Betta better? (The one I mentioned in my post above)

Klaus, Marbles or Dove? (Or another name you can suggest)

I like the name Klaus. and omg he's so gorgeous I want him
I can't wait to see if he colors up even more once you've got him settled! If you could take a picture of him flaring, we could see if he really is an HM. c:

You are my favorite person on cs right now. My oscar is in a 55, he's only about 5 inches long right now. But we just started carrying albino senegals at my store, and on Sunday I'm going to clean out my empty ten gallon to get one to raise up big enough to go with my oscar. The ones we got in are already about 3.5 inches so he won't have too long to go before he can join stallone.
Bichirs are my favorite thing to put with oscars and its so freaking awesome to see another user here who is doing the same thing with their oscar as I am.
What type of oscar do you have?

How many gallons is your tank? : 5G
How many fish and what types are they? :  1 betta
How long has it been running? : maybe 2-3 months now since I replaced it with this one?
Did you cycle it? : Yes
If possible what are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels? : ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 10ppm
What is the issue or question? : Betta is lethargic, fins clamped. He's 4-5 years old. Any idea what could be wrong? :c

He is a wild type Oscar that I found while cast netting in a canal a few months ago. He is starting to red some red on his sides(the sign of maturity) but other than that and his ocellus he has no red on him, but he does have a tan saddle-shaped spot on his back. His only companion at the moment is a pleco that is the same size as him which will move with him to the big tank as well.

I do not know if I should do an albino or a normal, both are very cool.

Today I went and bought a fantail goldfish for my 20 gallon! He is soo cute! He is literally a gorgous gold color. It shimmers in the light, he is so beautiful! I love him so much! The person working where I got him said he was about 3 months old. When I was looking at the goldfish I saw him and right away all I thought was he is mine. I'm trying to think of a name. I was thinking of naming him Red but if you guys have any suggestions please let me know. I really like creative, different names. :D

I just picked up a nerite snail for my betta tank! The guy there said theirs like rooting through the gravel, so I'm praying mine will be the same (I have some algae in the gravel that's been bothering me, so that'd be a blessing!). If you guys have nerites, what do you feed them? The guy there said some blanched vegetables would be good, but I know some people feed algae wafers...on the other hand, nerites are apparently pretty picky, so I'm not too sure. :>

I also saw so many pretty bettas at Petco omg it was so hard not to take all of them home hhh
