You guys have some really gorgeous bettas :) I've been thinking about getting one too, but I love my goofy little guppies too much

I can't look at all the bettas in pet stores either. I have the money and space for another tank, but I'm only allowed to bring a 3 gallon tank to college with me and I'd feel bad dumping even more fish on my family. As it is, only Tango (my first betta) is coming with me and I'm leaving Pip and the cories with my dad. I don't think he'd be too happy to take on any more.
But there was this gorgeous copper doubletail at Petsmart this week that almost made me change my mind. Almost. He was gorgeous and one of the only active and healthy looking ones left. The fish department is getting remodeled so they haven't been getting as much attention as usual. One cup said it's been there since march. =/

Feeling kind of ignored here :? Guess I'm not supposed to post in this topic? Sorry, I honestly didn't mean to intrude.

Have fun everyone and be good to your finned friends :)

When I got Gallifrey <33

Around March this year:

He's grown up so much <3

Is it normal for a betta's behavior and activity level to change when they get older? Daniel is around 4-5 years (closer to 5 now, I think) and I've noticed he's not nearly as active as he used to be. He still has a good appetite, has stopped biting his fins (though I doubt they'll be growing back cries), etc.

hello! I recently ( about 3 months ago ) got a male betta fish and was wondering, if I upgrade to a larger tank, what other fish could I put in his tank with him that he wouldn't attack. I would really like another betta ( Very doubtful that they would get along so I won't even take the chance ) but is there any other kind of fish that a male betta would enjoy for company?

Another betta isn't even a "maybe" option. It's a definite no. xD
How big of a tank are you thinking?
I personally wouldn't put anything else in with a betta unless it is ten gallons or bigger.
While it depends on the betta's temperment, you could get away with any peaceful fish without long fins or bright colors that lives in similar water conditions. No guppies because of their colorful fins.
I successfully keep cories with mine.

well I put maybe because My friend took that chance and actually has 2 males living together in peace and have never attacked eachother, but yeah I wouldn't try that, I love mine too much :P

I would put them in a 10 gallon with many plants and hiding places, I just feel so bad putting the one I have in the 3 gallons I have. I will look into getting cories! Thanks :DD

Today I thought about it and got rid of my crayfish(made the Oscar REALLY happy with a snack) and released my bettas into the tank. I have done this before about 20 time with this pairing so I have no worries(only reason I bring them inside again is if we are getting a cold snap or a hurricane) they are extremely good together(the male has never chased the female, mainly because I keep other fish in the tank to keep him busy). I will post pictures of them being happy tomorrow.

Thank you <3

Go for it, Shrew! If you think Zombie won't mind less space, and you really like the pink boy, I'd do it. c: That's how I ended up with Gallifrey. I found him at a Petsmart in Kentucky, couldn't leave without him, and just divided my 10G. I have Gallifrey and 4 guppies in the 10G now though, and Daniel (my blue rosetail) in his own 5G.

For betta tankmates: Like dia said, it really depends on the individual betta. Cories or snails are good choices. I have 4 guppies in a 10G with one of my boys, but he is an uncommon exception. He's EXTREMELY laid back and easy going. It's hard to get him to flare too, which stinks for picture taking, but oh well. :P
If I were to put my other boy in with them, they wouldn't last 5 minutes. Neither woukd shrimp for that matter. The only thing I can have with him is a snail. But he prefers being alone.
NOTE: It is NOT recommend housing your betta with guppies.

My 5 gallon tank of five fish is about a week old. Their are several kinds. Three I can't remember, but I know I have two tetras; Matthew and Patrisha, alongside Crystal, Glass, and Arrowtail.

Here's a little story that's unfolded tonight.

Before I actually went to bed at 11, I noticed my fish were all very twitchy (jumpy). And I mean a lot more than usual; and my biggest fish, crystal was chasing Matthew, one of my Tetras' around, which confused me. My dad said everything looked fine, so I went to bed.

Currently, its 1:30 am, and i had head down for a drink. when i came back up stairs, I noticed my fish sleeping on the bottom of the tank. I never watch them when they sleep so I did, whatever. (Stalker xD) As I watched crystal, I noticed something moving in the corner. I though,'what on earth is that?' And I went over to see. When I looked, I noticed it had eyes. I freaked out, realizing what it was; I have a brand new member to my tank. Matthew and Patrisha had a little baby tetra! ^3^ Im so happy! I can't believe it! I would have never excpected a baby fish in my tank. Now, I'm just a little worried. Is he gonna be aalright? The others won't eat him, will they? Should I move the tetras into their own little tank for now? What if the baby doesn't eat? I'm a newcomer to owning fish, and I have no idea how to care for a tiny tetra baby. Please, even you know anything, I'd really love to hear!
