Went to a few pet stores the other day in search of some VERY pretty guppies. I ended up buying 2 females and a male. The male is just flawless. He's got an orange tail, and green and purple SPOTS! He's just amazing, I bet the offspring will be perfect! I am waiting for a tank stand order to place my 10 gal. tank on...so I will be prepared.

I have a baby cichlid. he is only about a quarter of an inch long right now. when I found him I put him in a plastic container used to put nuts or candy in that was 4 inches across and 2 inches high. I have been feeding him a single crushed up betta pellet every other day as the pellet is kind of big still. I recently moved him into a half quart jar I had bought some roasted peanuts in(I have washed it out so it is fish safe). I still do not know what kind of cichlid he is but he is really cool. the jar he is in looks like a mansion for now.

Yes I do. I have a ten gallon for when he is about two inches long. Once he gets too big for ten gallons he will go into a thirty gallon. At that point his growth will have slowed down and will give me a year to get a bigger tank.

I should stick around for this question, since in a few weeks, i will be moving my Betta from a 2 gallon to a 10 gallon. Or however long it will take for me to be satisfied that the tank is cycled properly. I gotta get it set up and let it cycle first, of course.

If you have an uncycled 2 gallon and an uncycled 10 gallon the betta would be better off in the 10 gallon since the waste would be more diluted in a larger body of water c:
If you have a cycled 2 gallon you can just stick the filter straight in the 10 gallon

What speices?

Right now I cant tell what species he is because he is only half an inch long, wild caught(I found him in a shell in an area full of mayan cichlids, black acaras, oscars, and tilapia) and he has a pattern that looks like a mix of everything. We plan to get a 90 to 100 gallon in about six months so I think we got him covered.

For those who have a 55 gallon tank or larger, what on earth do you filter with? A canister filter?

For those who have a 55 gallon tank or larger, what on earth do you filter with? A canister filter?

On my 55 I have a standard over the back filter.
When I had my 75 we used a canister.
When I had my 250 we had a full sump system running in the stand.
