Awww man... my oldest guppy, the one I've had since the beginning of my aquarium hobby, is looking rough. He's been getting weaker in the last few days and tonight he keeps sitting at the bottom. His younger buddy, who came to the tank with him, hovers close by, keeping him company.
I don't want to lose him, but old age takes its toll

I'd like to try something other than a betta in the tank; it's a 2.5 gallon. I know that doesn't have a lot of options. Any ideas?
2.5 gal, in liters that's like, 9.something liters. Shrimps? There are also some very small rasboras(1,5-2 cm long), but I'm not super familar with them or what size tank is recommended for them in general. I also know of one person, who had some in 20L and ended up giving them away, because the males would take mini territories and chase away other fish from those areas. And that was quite well planted tank, which usually helps to keep up the peace.
Other than those, I can't think of anything else to put in...
Did little test today. I've been wondering if it's just the corries that feel vibrations from the floor. So I tested my blue neons. I stuck piece of food tablet on the tank wall, so they'd come out of hiding and stay in the open. Then let them eat for bit, walked to the other edge of the room, shut down the room's light(they can't see me so well then I've noticed) and waited again for bit. Then stomped my heel down(on carpet) and boom fishies spook a way. So it seems even tetras do feel vibrations coming from the floor, even if it's not coming from right next to the tank.
Also did some re-planting and moved the tree piece little bit. I've come to the point with my tank, that I no longer have space to plant all my cutlings. :c I was so supposed to bring that empty tank to my room during the holidays and start using it as plant tank and maaaaaybe try and breed the blue neons. But nooo, had to break the stupid bone. XP
I've been thinking shrimp myself. They're pretty cool little dudes. I might set up something and buy some since they're cheap and see how it goes. Last time I bought a shrimp it didn't do too well, but my betta might have killed it.

Hi (:
I'm new to the group.
I'm a fish lover myself (:
I keep goldfish and bettas!
I have a 30 gallon planted tank with three goldfish ( a calico fantail, a telescope eye and a baby oranda)
I also have a 10 gallon divided tank with a male betta on one side, and soon to come another betta (:
I love fish keeping!

I was wondering, would a small vase or ornate cup work in a fish tank? I would definiely use a new one and I would clean it before placing it in a tank. I just thought that a bright vase or cup would add a bit of colour to my bland tanks and provide a hiding place for my bettas.
I'm just concerned that they would contain chemicals. Does anyone know about this?

Leave it in a bucket of water for two weeks first. If it changes colour or gives off a chemical smell, it's not safe to use. Test the water in the bucket too, as certain paints may change the parameters. I have a teacup in one of my betta's tanks and it's fine c:

If it's been glazed (like a coffee mug) or is a terricota pot it should be safe

I'm thinking about getting a tankmate for my Glo-fish. Not goldfish. It other words, a yellow zebra danio. He wasn't injected with the paint thing, but his ancestors were genetically modified with jellyfish genes or something.
Anyways, he's a fin nipper and even managed to nip my neon tetra's fin! A NEON TETRA! It died. It's tail fin was barely there.
So here are the requirements-
1 1/2 in long to 2 inch long
5 gallon tank
Preferably short fins
Any ideas? Can I have a snail? He didn't pay much attention to the ghost shrimp, but I think it was partially because he couldn't see it.
I used to be sugar pixel .

A few more zebra danios or Glofish would be good since they do best in groups of ideally 6+. It being alone is probably why it nipped the tetra. Fish like that tend to get a bit stressed and aggressive when they're alone.
You will probably need a bigger tank. Google varies but says 10-20 gallons minimum for zebra danios since they're very active and like having plenty of room to swim.
You cannot eat love, nor buy a horse with it, nor warm your halls on a cold night

I second what Lonin said. ^^
Also, your Glofish should do fine with a snail if you're still planning on getting one. I have 3 snails living with my Glofish and they're completely fine. c: They don't even acknowledge one another.
