So forgot to post but It was Killian's Birthday back on the 15th of July. Can't believe how fast time goes by. He's 6 years old now.

Just wanted to hop on here and brag about my girl. She's a field line Labrador. ♡
Image

Free stack, so obviously not the best stack. I'd love some critiques on her confirmation, not following AKC standard, as I know she's out of standard (working lines), just looking for functionality.

    Going on 2 this year!

Hi everyone! Im new in this thread. My past few months have been a whirlwind... I am both so excited and so heartbroken. A couple months ago, we applied to adopt Daisy. She was the sweetest little great pyr x australian shepherd mix. We got her and she fit in so well. My toddler loved her, she was so gentle to him. I loved getting to know her. Around two weeks ago, she got out of the house. My fiance was shutting the door with his foot and unleashed her before it was closed. She got hit by a speeding truck and passed away.

I never thought I would want another dog so soon. I miss her so much. I am so angry that this happened. I got my family sooo ready for a puppy... and now we have nowhere to place the puppy love. My son keeps asking "wheres doggy?" I hate leaving the house without a dog. The lawn she pooped on makes me sad. I havent left the house much since she passed away.

Well, long story short (and a plethora of relationship issues that I dont need to get into), my fiance and I decided that we are getting our own pets after this. He told me that he is okay if I need to get a new dog in order to heal from this... and I do. I desperately need to make new memories over the sad memories that stop me from leaving the house. He needs time to heal on his terms, and will get his own pet when hes ready.

Well, Ive been approved at a shelter in my state. I have fallen in love with this pup. Shes 16 weeks old and they list her as an australian shepherd mix, but I see more hound in her/her siblings. Potentially a beagle mix? Lab mix? Im unsure. She hasnt arrived at the facility yet, so this is the only picture I have, and they cant tell me anything about her yet. She arrives on Saturday at her foster home, she will stay there for a week, then I will pick her up on the 19th.

Image

I am so excited to meet her, but gosh does it feel heavy. I dont want to be excited for a new puppy, because I want Daisy back. I miss her. Im angry. It was an accident, but it never wouldve happened under my care. Its hard for me to not be resentful towards my partner. I feel so guilty and gross when I mention a new puppy to my toddler... because he wanted Daisy. I feel like Im replacing her. Its just not fair. Ive lost a lot of pets in my lifetime, but this was truly the most senseless passing Ive experienced. The grieving process has been really hard, especially since I lost my childhood cat (pfp) last year as well. I know I need a new pup to move on from this. I need to, and want to, give a new rescue pup love in honor of Daisy and Phoenix. But I also desperately want a time machine. I shouldnt have told him to take her out potty.
Image

Do you laugh about me whenever I leave?
Or do I still need more therapy?
(fake out)

@animall;
That is so awful and I’m so so sorry that you had to experience that. It’s normal to feel all those emotions, and it’s such a hard thing to go through grief like that. It sounds like an honest mistake and a freak accident. I don’t think you need to feel guilty for wanting a new puppy, like you said it’s good to progress and get out of the house and not dwell on the bad experiences and feel even worse. Unfortunately I don’t know if toddlers can understand big complicated feelings and situations like this just yet, but that very cute puppy sounds like she’d have a great home. As someone who lives in a house with their individually owned dog, it’s a bit more responsibility but it is a lovely feeling to have a pet to yourself. I’m sure Daisy would want you to be happy and feel better and if that comes in the form of a puppy, no need to feel bad about it. I hope it all works out with that beautiful girl.

Hello! I'm Wolf, currently saving up for my next dog I haven't decided what breed yet. I still have awhile so I'm taking my time, so far I have considered the Golden Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, St. Bernard, Curly-Coated Retriever, Labrador Retriever, and a few others. I know somethings that I want in a dog like large, I'm okay with energy but not husky or border collie energy, very okay with high shedding, frequent grooming is also okay, and I do not want a guarding breed like a Great Pyrenees, Doberman, etc. Another thing that isn't an IMPORTANT want but still a want and that is fluffy! I really would like a dog with some fur but not like Samoyed fur. If anyone has advice for picking a breed or even a breed suggestion don't be afraid to let me know! Anyways, I'm very excited for this journey, I have owned adult rescue dogs before but I have never owned/raised a puppy from a breeder before. This is all new to me.

I'd recommend talking to breeders of each of these breeds.
However, please check to make sure ANY golden retriever or labrador breeder is testing for elbow dysplasia and patellar luxation, as both are SUPER common issues in the breed and I know so many owners of these dogs who didn't know this and wound up with costly vet bills later on.

I think a Curly Coated Retriever is a wise choice. They are genuinely wonderful dogs.

Another breed you might want to consider is the Keeshond. It's a bit smaller than your named breeds but is going to have the fluffy coat, lower guard instinct, and a very friendly personality in general. The most appropriate word I can give for them is "bright". I had a keeshond-chow mix and I adored that dog. They're pretty awesome.
They get to be 36-40 pounds (16-18kg), are great with dogs/kids/families, love strangers, and are fairly trainable. They are kinda like a husky in personality without the excessive energy (every Keeshond I've met has been super chill and has had an off switch). They CAN be guard dogs but in more of the Labrador "this is my family, I'm going to bark at you" sense.
They're also a great sporting choice since they can be easily trained and are tolerant of new places and things. So if you want to do dog sports like canicross, obedience, or agility, they are a great candidate.

I last posted on this thread in May, regarding the passing of my boy Mungo.
In the time since then, a lot has gone on. The grieving process was very difficult, but for the most part, we pulled through. For a while my mother and I had been debating getting another dog, but kept putting it off as we felt it was too soon and worried how Midge would react to another dog after Mungo.

Some more time passed and we ended up dog sitting for some family members, and it really sealed it for us. Not only did the house just feel right with more than one dog, but Midge absolutely loved the company, and she was so put out when they left. After months of being on the ropes about opening our hearts to a new dog, we finally made the decision, and last monday, we picked up a beautiful female chihuahua puppy.

    Meet Merle ❤️

As much of a handful as she’s been so far, things finally feel right again.
It finally feels like we have a sense of closure, and that this is a new beginning for us.
Of course we will never forget Mungo, he was the first, and to us, we don’t think we’ll ever have a dog quite as special as him again. But that doesn’t mean we’ll love these two any less.

I have no idea why I didn't think of messaging breeders. I love Curly-Coated Retrievers they're probably one of my favorites and at the moment my top choice, I just can't get over them! (They're also a very underrated retriever in my opinion) I'll have to look more into the Keeshond they actually sound like a great breed. Even if I don't end up with one I'd still love to learn more about them as they sound pretty underrated. Thank you!
