Does anyone have a service dog that they trained themselves?
I have a 14-week old AKC Labrador Retriever puppy I have been training.

I'm thinking I want to do AKC obedience and tracking classes with him as well.

hello fellow dog owners! i’m curious if anyone has any tips for dogs with arthritis, particularly in the back leg(s)?
my dog is around ten years old and he’s had some pain associated with arthritis. we’ve been giving him doggo advil but that only helps so much. does anyone have any tips to help with discomfort, pain, etc, that doesn’t involve taking him to the vet?

pet cbd (vetCBD is my recommendation) + time swimming in a pool - it will help relieve his symptoms, especially the more often you do it. it's like physical therapy for his muscles without putting weight on the joints. you can massage him as well. i have one other supplement recommendation but i have to sift around for it.

Something that really made a difference for my old man was YuMove. He was really picky and would turn his nose up at most treats, but he ate them with no issue. I noticed a real difference in him after he started taking them. He also had issues with his back legs.

    @lys.
I second Yumove. I think they're chicken flavoured, so my dog will eat them happily after doing a trick as if they're a treat rather than medicine. Her arthritis is worse in her front legs but she's also stiff in her back end, and I've noticed her limping a lot less on walks after taking Yumove regularly.
Our vet sells it behind the counter so we get a little membership discount but you can just buy it online or from Amazon or whatever, there are lots of different strengths and pack sizes to choose from.

it’s hard to believe my little raptor is 7 months old already :’)

we went on our first public training outing last weekend and he honestly went above and beyond my expectations.

Quill had a bit of a health scare that kept training and movement to a minimum but with how he’s picked up where we left off you’d never believe anything happened.

I will DM you as I'd love to discuss this! I'm actively training my second service dog (third to have been in training, I had a wash) and it's been an experience.
I came here to post about the fact that we've just enrolled her in CGC classes. I definitely think CGC, VHM (Virtual Home Manners), and TKN (Trick Novice) are a great starting point for most service dogs.

You may wonder why I'm suggesting trick training for service dogs.... well, that's because most of the early level tricks are able to be used as the base for tasks!

Here's some of the Novice Trick items and how they can be used for service work
Balance beam (walk on board a few inches off floor): FANTASTIC for body placement and body awareness!
Bark on cue (“Speak”): Can be used as an alert
Fetch it (ball, etc., 10 ft. away, bring to handler within 2 ft): Can be used to encourage the dog to retrieve lost or dropped items (wallet, keys).
Find it (find treat or scent item hidden under 1 cup or object): Honestly, I use this for my inhaler...
Get your . (Leash, brush, name of toy): Great for letting them help you get ready to go out.
Get in (gets in box): Modified place command. Great for positioning the dog.
Get on (gets on low platform or step - 4 paws): Body awareness and positioning.
Hand signals (Choose one: down, sit, or come): Useful in loud scenarios, or in places like movie theatres.
High five: Fun for the kids you meet. It's also a useful base command for teaching a dog to press the open door button.
Kennel up (go in crate, stay in until released): Great for a place command.
Paws up (2 front paws on low stool or step): Body positioning and awareness.
Spin in circle: Basis of the orbit task.
Touch it (hand or target stick): Great for keeping focus, pushing buttons, and many tasks.

Have the almost 9 month old crazy dog. She’s doing great on some of our outing and her first show is labor day. can’t believe she’s so old and big already.
