I've been stalking this thread for a while now and I'm absolutely on pins and needles. Only a few more days and Skoll comes home <3

I'm so happy for you Jazi he looks absolutely stunning. My first Dobie was an older rescue aswell and had similar bad experiences with prong collars (not on his muzzle though .... that's just very odd). He took right to +R training, he ended up getting all his food out of the hand for a few months and he now competes in Obedience, Tracking and Schutzhund.

Such a versatile breed. It's great that you also found a trainer to work with him.

I want to do competitive obedience and rally for sure, possibly agility or tracking. I like the idea of schutzhund but I don't know if this particular dog will be capable of more than just the endurance, tracking, and obedience portion (in other words not the "protection" aka bitework chunk). I do want to get him to the level of a BH if I can.

I will have all his medical records, his food (you'll have to switch him quite slowly as he has been eating a gastro diet for the past couple months), his toys, his easy walk harness and him.

From the foster mama :] Only a couple more "sleeps" to go as she puts it! We've decided on a time, early afternoon on Saturday. I have a guaranteed (very reluctant- and slightly awkward) ride and a couple possibilities still floating around to spare aforementioned person if possible. Packing his "doggy bag" for the road!

two days, Jazi! Two days! TWO!

I just wanted to give you a heads up about something. The previous owner had said he had some resource guarding but we didn't see it and the trainer didn't see it. Just now I gave him a rawhide and my coworker was petting him and it wasn't until she pet his head he let out a soft growl. It caught him off guard as much as us but it's something to be aware of.

Oh boy, resource guarding his owner mentioned has popped up. A soft growl is definitely not how his past owner made it sound, though. This will be fun /rolleyes. Good thing I've already talked to the trainer.

Also: AAAAAAAH It's tomorrow!!

It's great you already talked to a trainer! Resource guarding can be a dangerous thing if not worked on, especially if you have other animals or kids in the house. Though it can be very easily fix. Bella used to have a bit of resource guarding issues, but now she's at the point where I could put my hand in her mouth while eating and she wouldn't care.

Yeah if he's only JUST NOW let out a soft grumble, that's something that can easily be nipped in the bud. I'm very glad his previous owners didn't beat his warnings out of him, otherwise he'd be much more dangerous to deal with. On a pleasant note I just got home from college finals so I've been cleaning and moving the rats out of the way. There's a loft that my cat can get to that a dog would be unable to reach, so I've been debating putting my cat's food up there out of the way. SHE resource guards terribly from other animals and I think it'd help her stress level remain as low as possible during the transition.
