I let my dogs ump up if they are being played with or if they are invited to jump up, not when other people come in the house or when they see someone in PetSmart unless that person allows them to.
If Misty or Wolfgang jumped on someone who was weak or a kid they could easily knock them over. Wolfgang has knocked me over before. So, since they can't just randomly jump on anyone, it's not fair for me to let Marty or Kiba do that.
My grandmother allows her Maltese to stand up against her and bark and bark to be picked up. Considering its a Maktese, its more of an annoying scream than a bark. It's the most annoying thing in the entire world. If one of my dogs did that I'd probably go insane on them x.x
I just cannot stand the sound of small dogs barking. Kiba's voice isnt that bad, but most small dogs have the most annoying ugly voices just, ugh.

You wouldn't let a GSD jump on you, but toy dog owners seem to think it's okay if their Chihuahua jumps on you. Do you know what I mean?
I regularly invite Clemmy (boxer) to jump on me and she often does it in play without invitation as well. I love having a dog jump on me.Lolita was allowed to 'jump' on us as well in her younger years and she's allowed to paw at us to be asked to be picked up when she doesn't feel safe. (though I try to avoid putting her in those situations) But it's not like I wouldn't allow a larger breed (with the exclusion of the REALLY big breeds like Danes) to jump on me.
I meant when you first get home, or when they first meet someone. If they are invited, or they ask to be picked up, that is completely different.
A lot of people don't like having dogs jump on them - big or small. It's a precaution to teach them not to jump.
Actually, I do allow Clemmy to jump on me when she's greeting me. Again, I like it. But, no, she doesn't do it to other people because, even though she's friendly, she's not like a lab where they're omg so excited to meet a new person they can't contain themselves. Jumping and kidney beaning is reserved for the people she loves. Like me.

@Saracirce My Lab doesn't jump on ANY people at all. Even if I allowed her to she still wouldn't. Neither do any of the other Labs I know, other than Jilli, but she is also part Corgi Chow and Basset.
I let my dogs jump on me when i come home too, but they know not to jump on random people unless told they can. They know if i tell them to stop jumping on me (like if I'm carrying something etc) that they need to stop. They usually won't jump on me if I'm carrying something or doing something though anyway.

Fuzzy, I was just using an example to illustrate an over friendly dog. And yes, I have known labs who were horrible jumpers, including one my own family owned when I was a kid. There are plenty of Labs who do it, especially when they're younger.

I know, but there are plenty of Boxers and other breeds so do too. Pretty much all dogs jump up as pups, you just need to teach them not to.

I'm aware of that Fuzzy. Stop being so defensive.

I'm not trying to be defensive, I'm just pointing it out. Some people think all or most Labs are just crazy hyper animals.
I love Labs, they're pretty dogs and they're built so basic that they can be used for so many things. I wouldn't specifically seek one out from a breeder though, they're a little too common and basic looking for my tastes. I'd definitely rescue one though when not looking specifically for any breed (as you can see since I've already done that and have a rescued Lab lol).

Well, you are being defensive. You're always defensive. Every time one of us mentions something about Labs, Cockers, Akitas or Papillions or even one of the other breeds in your family, you say "well, my dog doesn't do that" or "the dogs I've met don't do that". It doesn't matter how true it is for that breed or whether we've hard personal experience with that breed, you jump up to the defense. Frankly, I'm getting tired of it.
When somebody says something about Boxers, you don't see me going "Well, Clemmy didn't do that" or "The boxers I've met don't do that." You don't see anyone else on here doing that either. Most of us will either laugh to ourselves and agree or correct the misinformation without using anecdotal evidence.
And, fyi, I actually like well put together field-bred labs who are at a good weight. Especially yellows and chocolates. I would probably keep one if it fell into my lap but, over all, I don't like their overly friendly personalities or the fact it takes them so long to mature Says the person who adores Boxers. but I more then likely would pass one over in a shelter unless no other dog catches my eye.

I was only trying to say that not all Labs are crazy animals. Not many people on here really like Labs because they see them that wayand I'm just saying its not true for all of them or most of them if they're trained.
You did the same thing on another thread today when someone said Dachshunds are yappy.
