Hello, I wanted to ask for tips on how to help a dog with resource guarding issues. My puppy has really bad resource guarding. He will run away and growl at you when you try to take it for him. Often times, this is with items that are either dangerous to him, or he isn't supposed to have, so we can't just let him keep the item that he has. I tried to watch some resource guarding dog training videos, but all of them suggest a different thing, and either none of them really seem to work, or are aggressive methods. He is a dog that responds well to positive reinforcement. As long as we are kind and gentle with him, he's not too aggressive about what he has, but often times it will take forever for him to let it go. I would love some suggestions on how to help him stop this issue. Thanks in advance!

I would also suggest dropping high value food in front of them when you get close. you want your presence to be a good thing, not a bad thing where you only come to take it away. giving him something good like cheese or hotdog meat will make him associate you coming close as a good thing

Hi guys, I tried my absolute hardest to go out of my way to find a responsible breeder.
I ended up getting my puppy from this woman who ofa heath tests, trials her dogs, goes out of her way to prove they are ready for pet homes as well(cgc all levels, trick titles etc. actually helped with my breeder search as Siberians are known to not be "trainable") with interviewing processes etc.

first month i had my dog, no contact. didn't ask for the contract back, didn't ask how she was doing, etc.
i asked simple questions and i did get an answer back from her, but most were super short.

ive been asking her for info on showing, and asking about her papers as i never got them, so far all shes said "oh i can offer you a coowner ship and you have full ownership just cant decide breeding matches" but still wont tell me what else i have to do to get papers and/or show? i have no idea what to do.

i was told that you can reg your dog if both parents are reg?
her mom is under akc and ukc (or should be). her dad is also under fci as well as those two.

i grew up with doodles (not my choice i want a husky or a doberman)
i still have one of them and shes a very old lady
i have my akc doberman who was a rehome, but her breeder wasnt the best and ive been told im the only one she knows whos ever shown her dogs.. (fastcat, cgc) so i had to figure it out myself.

if he isn't showing any signs of aggression, see if you can find a calmer dog or a few that wont do much/plays only a little bit and get him use to them. not sure if your dog is just skittish/low confidence but small play groups of older/calmer dogs usually can help these situations. then once he learns how to play, find a dog that matches his energy.

You must have his pedigree to register him, which the breeder should have given you. Do you have a contract stating that she's supposed to give you that at the time of purchase?
I'm also wondering what you mean by mom "should be" registered. Do you not know her registered name? There MUST be records of both of her dogs all over the place if they're GCH. Co-ownership is very common with show dogs in the US; but make SURE to verify everything she told you first (specifically the titles on her dogs) so that you don't enter a co-ownership contract with someone who is shady. It also sounds like she isn't very good at contact so I doubt she'll be willing to mentor you. If you're able to get him registered, join your local breed club to find a mentor who can introduce you to the show ring. It will make things a lot easier!
Ultimately, you're going to need his pedigree to register him with the AKC.

Oh noooo. The contract is probably void if it still has the other kennel name in some places. The fact that she's changing her mind now and saying you can only get papers after she's spayed is such a huge red flag.
Have you tried straight up telling her like, "hey, this is what I was promised, this is what the contract said, so this is what I expect"? If she still says no to that, then taking up the offer of co-ownership may be the only option. Just make sure the contract is airtight.
I'll add that taking the situation to a small claims court is always possible, but you'd have to decide if the contract is sufficient evidence of false advertising. And the outcome is usually a refund of the puppy, not her giving you papers that may not exist, so that may not be worth it at all.

You should still have the paper work from both parents regardless of if your planning to show or not so you can check if the parents have had all relevant testing done.
Co owner ship is normally only valid if you plan on breeding with the breeder haveing choose of which stud or female your dog is bred to in the future (well that's how co ownership was done when I breed GSD's and sibes) so a spay contract would defeat the purpose.

In honesty it all sounds dodgy if she won't even give you the parents register names so you can do some background checks (titles, hips, elbow, eye tests are the main thing in Sibes) on the parents and I would honestly see if there was anything that could be done for you.

i have parents reg names. dad is a bit iffy as he’s an import and i’m not sure if they changed his name. not under ofa. both his parents are ofa tested and passed, and he has a few ukc ch titles. supposedly the breeder is still working on getting him his akc but it’s been about a year?

mom is under ofa, with many ukc result pages. found a few for akc. has a #7 gch bob one year for ukc.

uncensored opinions of breeders actually had like two or so posts on the breeder, both posts had different people saying she’s pretty good. she’s been breeding and showing for about 15-20 years. not sure if she’s just slacking or because i’m young and she thinks i won’t look into this.

You cant change registered names once a dog is registered you can add your own kennel suffix but can not change a dogs registered name.
I would be worried if she was slacking with you because of age, I got my first GSD at 5 years old and the breeder was amazing with helping me out, granted I couldnt do alot but she did explain everything simple that was important and gave me a little spread sheet for my dog which I could follow and she also helped me in my first show.

What country are you in if you dont mind me asking, I'm only use to dealing with Sibe breeders in the UK and with Covid alot of shows had been cancled over here.
