Thank you for posting this, Cardinal. I've been really worried about some of my animals (especially cause my cat chooses to eat by dogs food) so I was kind of cautious on what was going into their bodies. I'm sad to hear that my dog has been taking in poisons (via Kibbles n bits) but I hope to convince my mom to switch to a different brand. Sadly, she is more concerned with the price, then the quality, but with the help of your article, I'll be able to get her at least thinking about a switch.

I've switched Axel to Taste of The Wild since the Kennel Gate pet store started to supply it and man does he love it. At one point he wasn't carying as much weight as he should have been and know his weight is consistent his coat is shiny and his skin isn't flacky. He will even eat it out the bag given the chance which he wouldn't do with his old food.
We also have Raegan on Taste of The Wild puppy as grain based food up set her stomach and know she is gaining more weight and her stomach is secaled.
We tryed Mana, Mahado and Enya on it but they end up hyper on it.
This is one of the best dog foods I've found in a while it might be £50 a sack but its worth the price and the dogs are worth it.

TOTW upset my pups stomach at first as well, it took a while for it to even out. =) Otherwise, we have a bag of it right now and it was the first grain free I tryed out forever ago with my dog Lucky and she's always done decently well on it. Right now she's on it to gain a few extra pounds, its one of the cheapest red-meat foods and she does better on red meat I've come to find out.

So, for various reasons, we had to delay the food switch but my stepdad just bought a huge bag of Blue Buffalo (not Blue Wilderness like I wanted, unfortunately) and I did a rush change. Clemmy is now on 100% BB and Loli is almost there (just waiting on her to finish her beneful). My mom's still messing up the dogs by feeding them when she shouldn't and feeding too much. BLAH. But, at least I've got them on decent food now.

Hello, athenian again.
I was wondering if you had any advice for weight loss. In terms of diet, my parents feel raw is too expensive, and we just bought and opened a new big bag of Blue Buffalo. Unfortunately, the influx of visitors increased dramatically this year, and they're well-meaning but ended up fattening my dog on table scraps.
I've been trying to exercise my dog more, but since I'm in school I'm not at home all day, and when I get home I have homework, leaving little to no time to monitor my dog's physical activity. My younger brother isn't as obliging to take the dog for long walks, and I don't have the time to walk the dog every day.
I feel like our vet would try to market us a Science Diet weight loss formula, which I don't want our dog to be eating.
Do you have any suggestions? I've prompted our visitors to stop the treat flow, though it's not working very well, probably because I'm too young to have much authority in our household. Would feeding a bit of greens help, or perhaps cutting down on the food?
{ hope this doesn't appear like I'm spamming, though I could always move to another topic. Also, excuse any icky grammar, I'm writing this on my phone. }

If you can't keep the visitors and the dogs separate during meal times, slightly reducing amount of BB you're giving them will do for now. Increasing walks, having a few days of good hard play (weekends? Only takes an hour or two), you don't have to run around every day (though I'm sure they'd enjoy it), but a couple days where you can devote a few hours should do a lot in both weight and energy level

Our dog is fed Eukanuba, and its sadly the best brand that is possible to get here. I've been trying to convince my mother to change over to raw diet, with not much luck. I think I've been able to convince her to atleast mix some raw meat into her food. I guess its better than nothing. :/
Well, I'll be getting a dog that will be 'mine'. A Cavalier king charles spaniel male. My mother agreed on that I could feed him a raw diet if I pay for the food myself.
I'll be getting the lil' fella when he's eight weeks old. And I'd really appreciate some tips when it comes to feeding him. c:
