All dogs should be crate trained its not breed-dependent.
Yes. Your mother may have owned many dogs but it’s also a good time to educate and learn! Breed does not equal crate training vs. not crate training. I have an purebred AKC field line Labrador Retriever that has been crate trained since she was 8 weeks old; nothing to do with her breed, it was to do with her safety. Crate/kennel training is a safety precaution and can create a safe space for your pet.

Third this. Ours was crate trained from 8 weeks on. He’s a golden retriever/lab possible more mixed. It creates a safe environment if they ever feel threatened or want to be alone. Tiger knows the word “place” and when you say it he goes to his crate to cool down and relax. It’s not mean to crate a dog.
Oop- here’s a picture of the butts since I haven’t posted them in awhile!
Dexter our beagle (possible mix? We don’t know for sure he could be purebred.) and tiger.

Our Australian shepherd was crate-trained at 8 weeks old. Now he just turned one year old and he still goes in his crate every so often.

Since I haven't been around in awhile, figured I'd share a new pack picture lol. We have Zona the Dane, Bones the Malinois, Inara the Smooth who I share with my roommate, Extra the tri rough collie, Waverly the tri rough girl, Sen the karakachan livestock puppy who we also share, Kes the aussie and Octavia the BC.
Not pictured since I wasn't keeping him at rhe time, is Ruse the malinois mix. He is Bones' son from my mistake luckily it was just one pup and he's turned out fantastic and is my next SDiT 💜
Bones also found a bridge to jump off so that's exciting lol

Gosh, this picture.
Time sure does fly; I remember when I first joined this thread it was just Kestrel and new little puppy O in a rucksack. (and the two are looking as beautiful as ever, of course, gorgeous girls front and centre)
But wow, look how big this pack's grown, and Extra is so big already?? Last time I saw him on my insta feed he was just a wee fluff ball lol. You're absolutely living my dream with that many dogs!

She already has a Kong!
I always recommend snuffle mats! But training and letting your dog sniff on walks is also essential for mental stimulation!

Make sure you don't let them just grab and shake the mat
my pup figured out how to do it and hasn't properly used her snuffle mat since
I use a Kong wobbler though, she enjoys that!

I got her a Kong gyro ball and she figured out that if you just pick it up and slam it, it’ll release treats. 🤦♀️
