My club just finished our Mondioring seminar this past weekend. I took photos of everyone and these are a couple of my favorites! These two dogs are sisters. 🥰 Sadly no photos of my dog working (nobody else knows how to use a camera haha), but I did get some videos of our sessions which is more important to me.

Dexter and tiger with their new bling.

Tiger has The Flash (DC) buckle down collar and dexter has A Nightmare On Elm Street buckle down collar and a tag that has our names and numbers on the back and that he’s microchipped. Was made by someone on Etsy. ❤️

Hello everyone! I have a question.

My family would like to breed our male Shiba Inu, in order to keep and raise one of the puppies, but we don't know all that many people in the area we live in and we don't really have much of an idea of where to find a mate for him. We would also like to find a responsible owner that will make sure that all of the puppies find good homes. Though I do have faith that since they will be Shiba Inus, they won't be difficult to rehome, I still worry. I am also not sure of the expectations of the owners of the male dog in the United States, since my family is not originally from here and the only time our dogs have had puppies was in our home country. Would anyone who has done this before have any advice? We would also only like for him to father one litter, and no more than that.

Is your dog health tested and titled in either confirmation or sports?
If the answer to any part of that question is no, then please do not breed your dog.
If your dog is health tested and titled and has proven to be breeding quality, then I'd imagine your breeds breed club would be able to help direct you to people looking for studs.

@Nicnova Is he health tested? If you intend to breed a dog both parents should be health tested, especially for conditions the breed is prone to. Basically what .muse. said.
I personally only bred my late dog since a good breeder was interested in him, he went through strict health testing before he was cleared to sire a litter. He had also done well in a few shows.

The us is overloaded with shelter dogs, so dogs that are bred should be so responsibly to produce healthy animals.

Standard in the us for both male and female dogs is spaying and neutering. Intact dogs are not the norm there.

I see, I think there is a bit of a cultural difference there. We don’t have any dog shows or anything like that in my home country, and the thought of entering my dog in one makes me extremely uncomfortable. I don’t think I would do it. He is health tested, and he is perfectly healthy, so I have no worries that he will pass on any conditions to the pups.

Health tested how? As in specific disease related tests or just "my vet says he's healthy" health tested. Because those are drastically different things and one is subpar to any detrimental health testing.
And that's while I said conformation /or/ sports, if he's an active working dog with all the proper health testing, most would consider that acceptable too. Just /something/ that says "this dogs genes are worth passing down and /bettering/ the breed." "We want one his puppies" is usually a BYB reason to breed a dog. Not saying you are a BYB, just letting you know that in more dog snobby groups you would be seen as one of you are breeding for that one reason.

He has been tested for certain diseases, yes, though we would like to make sure he is tested for everything that may be passed down before we breed him so we would definitely discuss with our vet further beforehand. We would only like to breed him once, and are highly invested in the lives of the pups and making sure they have good homes without any interest in money, so honestly calling us backyard breeders would be extremely dumb in my opinion and I would not take the opinion of anyone who says that into consideration. Though I don’t see how purebred superiority and that mentality that comes with bettering the breed is a better reason to breed a dog than actually wanting to take care of the puppies and making sure they’re healthy, but I think we may have different opinions on the matter. Our dogs are family to us, not prizes or products.

Either way, I didn’t come to discuss that, I just wanted to see of good ways to find potential responsible partners and what is expected of the father’s family when it comes to helping out. I certainly didn’t expect to have to disclose my dog’s health history on this thread or be told to enter him in a show. Do not worry, we will make sure the puppies are healthy and find good homes if we do decide to breed him. But frankly, I don’t think the rest is any of your business.

Tbf, you yourself said that your family's reason for wanting to breed him was to keep a puppy. You yourself also said that you'd like to find a responsible owner of a female who would make sure the puppies find good homes.
That definitely came off as very "we want a puppy and the other dogs owner can do what they will with the rest of the litter, we don't want to be part of the whole process." So I won't apologize for coming off as concerned that you would go the BYB route and fishing for more information to see if that was indeed the case or not.
I also didn't call you a BYB, only that your given reason was one that many byb use frequently. No need to stoop so low as to call someone's opinion on responsible breeding practices dumb. I will not change my opinion that unless you (the general you, not you specifically) are trying to better the breed, you shouldn't be breeding your animals at all.
Either way, I already gave a reasonable answer to your intial question, and you're clearly going to take offense to anything I say from here on out, so the only thing else I can say is best of luck finding a female who will compliment your dogs genes.
