oh no

i wonder why he's perceiving him as a threat? it might take a while, but you could try lots of counterconditioning and positive reinforcement. starting with them in the same room, his dad sitting in a chair w/o making any noise or trying to engage with the dog, and having dexter stand far enough away that he doesn't feel threatened but can see him, with none of his stuff in there (no toys or food or anything) if thats possible and like, rewarding him for being able too see him and not growling, etc etc, for 10 minutes a day and getting closer and closer bit by bit until he's a lil more comfortable being near him and doesn't view him as a threat / associates seeing him with the love and treats. it'd take a while, but it'd hopefully help him at least a bit
on top of that, once he seems to have come to terms with him a little more / can be closer to and in the same room as him, having him give dexter treats and praising him whenever the dad walks into a room that dexter's in and he doesn't growl, etc will help him start to associate him with good things, and don't forget to use a leash and possibly a muzzle during training jic
i am not a professional trainer tho and it might help to find a behaviorist or a trainer who can help you, tho i know that could also be a bit costly and it can be hard to find one who's certified and trustworthy.

i know how frustrating behavioral issues can be, i hope you're able to help him so that he and your bf's dad can feel a little safer
edit: sorry for rambling--
Unfortunately we’ve tried that already and he’s not his pant leg (not actual leg)
He was abused by a older gentleman before us so we’re assuming it’s got something to do with that?

ahh weird : ( that seems troublesome
sounds like that could definitely have something to do with it, yeah. i'm glad he didn't get his actual leg at least :[ i'm sorry y'all are having trouble with him, i hope you guys'll be able to figure it out/get some proper help with him
edit: oh yeah! i forgot. a while ago i had a chinese crested named sparklelina and she's still alive, but due to living situations she had to stay with my grandma. we went to visit recently and i saw her and got to hang out, she was so sweet still <3 she's gotten so old (she's like 12 now...) and has gone deaf but she was still following me around the kitchen and walking up to me for pets every time she saw me crouching down........... so sweet, i really miss having a dog of my own ;;;w;;;

@aura aw, he looks like a lovely boy!

i unfortunately had to return my galgo. she was bullying the gshep(who i have about 50% ownership of). it was some of the strangest behaviour i've seen personally. very odd to see a 6 m.o actively display aggressive behaviours towards a dog, especially one more than twice her size. poor guy became afraid of her.
it was a choice that stung to make since i very much liked her otherwise, but i'm sure it was the most fair one to make for the dogs.

Aw I’m sorry to hear that! I hope you find one in the future (if you plan on getting one) likes your German shepherd baby.

should I teach Lucy not to sniff and pee 8 times on our walks? my mom is down here from Canada to help with my health, and she says something about it that we shouldn't let her mark and sniff so much, coming from her area of working with race horses and how you need to be "like a jailrer" with animals and not let them get their way all the time. teach her to not mark and sniff and mark so mucg even if I'm never going to try to take her shopping. I guess like one trains service dogs. which also has me asking other question, I see some people don't like the idea they exist, because a dog dosen't get the freedom to be a dog, and you need to breed occular asistance dogs, not just go get a mutt of any age from a shelter, my mom seems to agree on their "but why don't these people adopt an adult dog!?" so now I wonder if anyone would or could do such experiment. with the most skilled trainer and right dog
also. if I have no condicance, and have stress or anxiety or am upset. Lucy will "feel it in the leash" as well as misbehave or be overly emotional because my posture from my scoloisis makes my gait weird. is that true? part of why it's hard to train her, and maybe I've been to wishy washy or angry? now that she has to walk her or will help walk her after years of hearing about her and "grahh she's still alive? why did (my stepdad) get that stupid dog?"
