The Lost soul wrote:I wouldn't quite suggest the water technique. The cat is communicating and that's not a bad thing. She obviously is trying to say something and she might just need something to settle her down.

I have a cardboard shoe box my kitten(not really a kitten anymore, it's just a nickname really) sleeps in at night. I have it set up in a high place and she goes up there and curls up. It usually keeps her calm until morning.

The cat can be meowing for many reasons and it's best to try and figure out if she's bored, wants attention, needs somewhere to call her own, etc. Cats aren't just alarm clocks that go off and blare at you. They have triggers like any animal, cues that lead into the behavior. If you can find something to ease her, that would be best. She might be a bit distressed...

The worst we do is say her name if she is howling too much so she quiets down a bit. It's hard to comfort her as her way of showing affection is trying to eat your fingers. (She isn't angry when she does it, it's like she thinks biting=showing affection. She mostly bites you when she is happy). We suspect she gets anxious and meows a lot from her eyesight weakening (her mother wasn't very healthy when she had kittens, and had quite a few problems), and she might hear or smell something she can't see and it freaks her out.

That makes a lot of sense. When Bootsy lost her sight when she got older, she'd wander about the house meowing up a storm. I'd sit with her and pet her, but she grew anxious and upset with the loss of her sight. If you can do anything to try and ease her into it, it would help. Maybe even just curling up with her and spending a good amount of time with her might help the bad eyesight less of a scary situation. That's all I have got. I have a vocal cat, but he usually calms down after I spend time with him. I'm no expert on chatty cats. Someone else might have something to say.

My kitten will chew on my fingers when she's happy, so I can understand that. I honestly think it's cute...

You should probably see a vet for that...

He might have intestinal issues or whatever and that's medical stuff so... go see a vet. They're the people you need to go see.

~The Lost Soul- I agree with you completely. Even if you have a idea on what it is and you search a cure on the internet... don't use it. That could potentially hurt your cat in different ways... I have a story to go with that...
My cat was favoring his left paw, my neighbor saw him limping and stuff so she wanted to make a little cast for him... she wrapped around some cloth and stuff and when I saw my cat he was dragging his leg... his leg dripping with the cloth my neighbor had put on. I took it off and thankfully nothing was wrong... but if it was tied on to tight... my cat could have been seriously injured.
we did realize that my cat was still limping so we took him to the vet and he had a torn paw pad... a little scratch, and a easy fix.
so I say take your cat to the vet so you know what actually is wrong with your kitty...

It depends on your cat, but make sure to check the ingredients. Make sure some sort of meat is first, though I do not suggest chicken by product. two good brands are Purina and Iams

@The Lost Soul
Alright, thanks. :3 I've been trying to make sure she has lots of hidey holes, as she is most comfortable when she can tuck away (She's not hiding from my other cats. My other cats steer clear of her, as she is quite dominant). I try to spend time with her when I can, holding her and getting out toys so she can play. Her bites hurt a bit (and scare visitors), so I've been training her a bit to lessen it. (No punishment. I just pet her and give a treat or two until she bites me, and then walk away and don't pet her for at least 10 minutes. It's been working pretty well).

~ For the cat food..

I recommend dry food such as purina, and personaly my cat likes meow mix tuna and chicken or something like that.. but the one with the meaty (soft) inside and crunchy outside :3
but if you are considering to get wet food... I say don't do it... you cant leave it open for even a day.. unlike dry food... and it can kinda mess with your pets stomach... and don't give your cat wet food to see if he likes it and then switch to dry food... I learned that the hard way... its very hard on your poor cats stomach... same thing goes with switching kitty litter :)

~Hope this helps... starflight

I would strongly suggest staying away from dry foods. They simply aren't good for cats. If you go to PetSmart, they actually have their aisles organized so that high quality cat foods are at one end of the cat section, and low quality is at the other. If you're looking for something affordable and cheap, I like Simply Nourish. I would avoid Science Diet, any Purina product, Royal Canin, etc. The lowest quality dry food I would consider for my cat is PetSmart's Authority in grain free. Waggers has a semi moist cat food that I quite like. You won't find it at chain stores like PetSmart or PetCo, but it is great. It is between canned and dry food. 30% moisture so it is kind of like a soft cat treat. It is the convenience like dry food, but not as dehydrating. You can leave it out for long periods of time and it does not dry out. If you must feed something like dry food, I would get the semi moist cat food. If you have to feed actual dry food, I really like I and Love and You's nude food. Great ingredients, and at least here, it is easy to find. PetCo only carries it online, but at least here, it is sold in grocery stores. You may also find it at Whole Foods. You can also feel free to message me with any questions on cat nutrition :) I am by no means an expert, but I do know what goes into a quality food lol.

Oh god no. Purina and Iams are both HORRID foods.

Some actual food brands are Blue Buffalo, Wellness, 4health, Nature's Variety Instinct, Freshpet, Earthborn Holistic, Taste Of The Wild, Orijen, etc.
